A friend found this at what he thought was a Spitfire crash site. It looks wrong for a spit and has the part number 12103R and an L with a 9 in it stamped on. The strips on the left hand end are leather. Any help much appreciated. I can’t find the part number thread which appeared sometime ago and there are a lot links to look through! Thanks, Ian.

The curved part looks the same as a Frazer Nash rear gun turret.
