Mystery engine(s). The owner says the first is aviation but not sure what it is or where its from. The second one is a Bristol engine we think..

Galdri- I was thinking of the one-off Gemini Mk.8 which was Cirrus Major powered.

Engine Id

The motor in 1&2 are IMHO are of Cirrus origin and could possibly be a Cirrus Minor 2, the 2a had a constant speed unit attached to propeller hub. The other clues are the magneto mounts of triangular shape at the rear, the magnetos mounted in a vertcal position with interconnecting links to the throttle so as the throttle advanced so did the ignition timing. Infront of the 3cly radial engine are the BTH magnetos from the Cirrus engine and some of the intake induction system. The shape of the heads is very similar, if not he same, as the Cirrus minor2. I have been informed that the magnetos mount somewhat differently in a Major3 and are a sod to time, the Minor2 is bad enough. I have a Minor 2 in my Auster Autocrat.

I think you have some wires crossed there David 😉

To the best of my knowledge, no Gemini was ever fitted with the Blackburn Cirrus Major. They all had Cirrus Minor series II, or Gipsy Major 10 engines. There were, however, two Miles M.75 Aries produced with the Cirrus Major III engine. The Aries looked very much like a Gemini, but was a different aircraft, with a stronger fuselage and bigger tailfins.

Took me too long to get this done 😎 It has already been clarified 😎

Auster J5G Cirrus Autocar-Miles Messenger-Gemini to name a few

I think the Gemini had 2 x Cirrus Minors, the Miles Aries had 2 x Cirrus Majors.

Guys,

I actually posted the wrong picture (no.3) and I know its a Bristol Lucifer. Can you believe this engine is “new” and still in its original shipping container!!!

Thanks David for the tip on Cirrus Major. Can anyone confirm or give some clues as to what aircraft the Major went in?

Thanks again…

Oh lordy, that last one is rare !!

It sure looks like a Blackburne Thrush, in which case the name ‘Thrush’ should be stamped somewhere.

This info’ from BAPC Aero-engines list:

Make: BLACKBURNE
Name: Thrush
Date: 1924
HP: 38hp
Capacity: 1.5lt
