I was on holiday recently and found this exhaust stub while poking about a former WW2 RAF airfield, it was discovered with various other aircraft parts including Hurricane brackets and a 303 ammo feed chute etc.
It seems to be “muffled” maybe some kind of anti flame system? the only thing is it is rather small being 24cm in overall length with a bore of 5cm. I found some Merlin gaskets very close to this find but I cannot find any information about it at all.
If anyone can shed any light on this for me I would be most grateful.
