Mystery Jet Provost

I noticed when passing (going to collect my new car actually) Oxford Kidlington airport that there was a JP out on the ramp.It was too far away to get any ID, but it was light blue and grey with a darker cheat line and a round blue logo on the tail, any ideas as its unusual to see that type of jet there.
Out of interest there was also a Shorts skyvan(resident now i think), a Twin Otter and a Yak 18.

RE: Mystery Jet Provost

Ant,
Thats interesting , because i live just 5 miles from Abingdon and have not seen it flying at all. I see the other stuff that you mentioned plus a lot of the Brize traffic (I’m at Appleton, north west of Abingdon). I did see the BAC 111 again the other day inwards to BZN,makes a change from endless VC10’s and tristars.
How long are you in the area for?

Phil

RE: Mystery Jet Provost

I’ve been staying in Abingdon in Oxfordshire for the last few weeks (hence my recent lack of postings!),and I have seen what I presume to be this JP flying overhead on a number of occasions. Certainly makes a pleasant change to the usual light stuff and the endless Merlin helicopters!

RE: Mystery Jet Provost

Hi,

I was speaking to one of the flight instructors and he said that the JP was used by the Technical Training School for engine ground run practice. He also said that it had not run for quite some time.

Regards

No problem mate – I’d like to think I can recognise quality when I see it… 🙂

RE: Mystery Jet Provost

I’m pretty sure shes not the Kennet long legged one, i think i would have recongnised that, mind you it was some distance from the road.
Just by coincidence one of my colleagues in the office asked me this morning whether i was aware of a JP at Kidlington, he wondered if it had been taken on by CSE Aviation the resident flight training school.
Could they used something like a JP for side by side Biz jet training ?.
If i go that way in the near future i will take my bins and camera and try and solve the mystery.
Ps, Thanks for your comments about my pictures.

RE: Mystery Jet Provost

Philo, reading your post again, I’m starting to have doubts about whether it was the one. Sorry. Anyway, it’s a nice pic to look at – pretty much on a par with some of yours I’d say… 🙂

RE: Mystery Jet Provost

By the sound of it, it could be the Kennet Aviation JP Mk1, did she look particularly long legged? There’s a good flying shot of her at:

Scroll down past the Piston Provost to get to the JP.

Hope that helps…
