Some weeks ago one weekday morning whilst driving from Salisbury to Pitton I and several other people were treated to the sight of a dark green Merlin circling over a private field some miles south of Boscombe Down.
Circling very low and very slow, perhaps 50-70 ft above the ground around the same spot. The bizarre thing was the lack of noise, other than the spectacle of such a big machine just by the side of the road.
Any thoughts what the fairly public display was about?
I had thought it might be one of those ex-danish ones undergoing testing, but it seems like a really odd thing to do.
