The tail with “96-349/EK” is 69-6349/EK, an A-37B. It’s funny though: Chris Hobson’s “Vietnam Air Losses” lists this one as crashing accidentally in Thailand, rather than in Vietnam itself. It could be a repaint for 348 though, as this one was shot down over Vietnam proper.

The tail section with the TAC badge is of an F-105, the bit on the left of the A-37’s tail (with AF67-0…marked on it) an F-111A, and the big black wing is a B-52D’s horizontal tail.

There are quite a few pictures of Vietnamese proudly posing next to US wreckage from the war, quite a few of them are in Istvan Toperczer’s books on the Vietnam airwar.

Ant,

There must be some B-52 in there somewhere and I seem to recall a piece of Noratlas.

No Aeronavale Seafires unfortunately. 😉

Well looking at Geoff’s photo it seems there are a number of bits of AD4 Skyraider in there-the R-3350 engine with four blade prop is particularly noticeable, and it looks like there might be a wing and tail section next to that.
I’m sticking with my F105 idea, there are definately some bits of that in there somewhere and I’d agree there’s also what looks like some bits of A37.
I recognised the F105 tail as there is a famous bit of colour footage showing the schoolchildren who shot it down (!) retrieving what could well be this very tailfin from the wreckage, and posing beside it for the press.

Far too easy.

Top marks Ant with your guess at Hanoi.

As Geoff confirms it is the Boa Tang Phon Khong Military Museum.

Interestingly it not just US material. Also in the the ceremonial pyramid are sections of French aircraft from the previous Independence War for French Indo-China.

The place is the military museum in Hanoi.

Maybe this one, taken from a slightly different angle will help re a/c types.

Geoff.
