Didn’t think historic aviation was appropriate for this, but mods, if you think it more appropriate, please move it.
I earlier posted a piccie of some Sunderlands in the HA forum, in the posession of a close friend who inherited photos from his Grand-Father. Among the photos was this one taken aboard some anonymous vessel. Normally, nothing special, but take a closer look. A right mixture including RN Captain and Commodore(?) UK Army LT Col and Major, RAF officer (in life jacket, just boarded with news/orders/intelligence?) RAF officer (partly hidden by davit) and sundry US GI’s. Intriguing pic. Was it one taken by his Grand-Father or (like the Sunderland piccie) was it one distributed amongst the forces, of a particular “moment of importance”? Friends grandfather and Great Uncle served Europe India and West africa up to about 1948ish.
Don’t know whether to ask for opinions or have it as a caption thread!!

Looking at the RAF guy underneath the davit… is that a revolver he is wearing?
Most likely, Standard British sidearm in WWII was the Webley MkIV .38″ revolver, so it would make sense

Hmmmm,
Maybe……. If it was moored alongside, would the RAF chappy have needed a mae west, or would it be moored offshore?? Also, why so many GI’s. Was it a mobile HQ/Troop Ship?
Also, the Navy guys seem to be wearing winter kit… then again it does get darned cold in some “hot” parts of the world. My nephew is in Afghan at the moment and he can testify to that!!

Is it in any way linked to the W African Sunderland pic? If so then I might suggest on board SS Manela which was the HQ West Africa Command at Bathurst.
