It’s a bit of a long shot, but can anyone ID this spinner. I photographed it last week on the island of Tahiti Iti (the smaller island of Tahiti), on the Taravao – Teahupoo road. It is bolted on top of a fencepost outside a house located between the mileposts PK 13 – 14. (This is almost as far away as you can get on Tahiti from the Fa’aa airport!).
This spinner looks sound, is obviously off a four-blade prop system, and seems to be mainly fiberglass (which presumably dates it post WW2). Diameter at the blunt end seems to be about 200mm.
Given that Tahiti is in French Polynesia, I guess it is of French origin.

The number ES2498 looks like the series that Hawkers used for Sea Furies and others.
I agree it looks as if it might be a nose cap rather than a spinner, the lanyard also makes me think that.

Looks like a drop tank nose cone to me.

It might even be a Battle of Britain Dambuster Spitfire, of course. Very rare.

Spinner i/d
Another vote in the Dart Viscount/748 category from me.
Standard spinner for the Dowty prop on any Dart powered aircraft.

Battle of Britain
Dambuster
Spitfire
As we all know, anything on e-bay will fall into one of the three categories!
There are no other categories, are there?

Oh…..and Bruce…..will you be bringing the contents of your shed to Shoreham???? :);););)

Sell them on ebay as Spitfire would be a more accurate description than allot of stuff on there :diablo:

748 as well – pretty much anything RR Dart powered.
You still got them Bruce? May be needing some for G-BEJD when we finally get her to Speke.
Jon
Yes, I was looking at the with TT18Timbo the other day, and wondering what to do with them!

Incidentally Bruce, how big are those Viscount/748 spinners and how much would one, or a pair, cost?

Just a guess but try Noratlas as they often had dayglow spirals on them. The French also used Neptunes and Transalls out there.
