Hello,
I’ve posted two stills here with permission from Ron Dupas at
http://www.1000aircraftphotos.com of a mystery “Val” used in Tora.
Ron was keen to know what the strange notation is above
the tail wheel at the rear of the fuselage?
Its reads either: “117PSIL” or “337PSIL”, can’t quite make it out.
I’ve researched the Tora conversions for several years now
and this is the only one of 32 conversions that still has no
clear ID…although its n-number is N18102, theres no history,
subsequent film history or known serial number. The FAA have
no records in their files as I’ve tried for two years to obtain them.
Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks, I’ll give Scott a call.
It has an N-number so I think it’ll
be a flyer as opposed to a static.

Back in period (sadly, I’m that old) I recall reading that a few fliers and several non-fliers were sent to Japan for the carrier deck scenes.
One of those perhaps?
Other than that, I’d try to contact Scott Thompson aerovintage books.
He works for the FAA and might be able to find something.
