Mystery WWII Aircraft Item

I found two of these within a week – never seen one before and not at all sure what it is. Black plastic/rubber material – there is a black rubber/plastic rod that passes through it.

The one on the left came from an unknown Whitley from 19 OTU that crashed in Scotland – we are guesing around 1942/43.

The one on the right came from a dump with a lot of Lancaster bits and pieces.

Could it be part of an aerial – maybe the Lorenz blind landing system? Just a guess….. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Elliot I cant find a good picture yet but it looks like part of the Lorenz aerial for the Beam approach system.

Don’t suppose you have any pics Martin? Sounds like an aerial mounting then! Looks like I need to order some APs.

Thanks very much everyone.

they look like the insulators from the `beam approach` aerial that are fitted to either end of the aerial running along the rear underside of the fuselage.

Hi Elliott

I picked up a really nice one of these last time you were here. If you trawl back through the forum I will have posted a pic of it, probably late last year?
Anyway, I guessed it may have been an aerial insulator but no-one seemed to have seen one at the time.

I found something VERY similar on a Hudson ASV aerial array. Sadly no idea where it went to (35 years ago!!) and no pics.

Elliot if it is the antenna type that was fitted on lancs then it gets my vote! The insulators look remarkably like them? Any part numbers?
