Iv’e just read an article that Air Pacific is flying from Nadi to Vancouver Via Honolulu using 737-800s
I didn’t think the 737 was certified to fly that far over water, does anyone know what the ETOPS is on a 737-800

On my charity events around the world event we went from Syndey to Nadi then Honolulu then Los Angeles. Nadi to Honolulu is actually in a pretty much straight line on a nearly North heading. One airway starts at nadi airport and when it finishes you are 100miles out from Honolulu and you start the star soon after! It takes appox 6 hours and the winds is usually against you on the way up. It will take full fuel to do so and you have literally the reserved left once you get to the gate.
They have been doing that route for over 1 and half years now!

737NG’s have decent range. I know Aloha flies them from Hawaii to the U.S. West coast, and Vancouver is just a little further north on the coast. I don’t know the distance between Hawaii and Fiji, but if it’s roughly 5-6 hours, then the 738 should be able to handle it no problem.

Steve ,
I kinda remember Wys wrinting once that ETOPS is a complex certication which is linked to the a/c type but also the airline and many other parameters.
I guess it’s not just a matter of 738 ETOPS certification. Anyway I don’t think it could be much more than 180 ~ 210.
