Name that Tempest V Part.

Can anyone identify this part from a Tempest V?

The part has two metal brackets with which seems like a hard black plastic making up the body in the middle.

At one end is two butterfly nuts that seem to be able to adjust the height of the V bracket.

At the other end is some type of release mechanism with two electrical wires coming out of the body.

cheers

I think the practice bombs were only 20 lb apiece.

They are 11½ Lb’ers if I’m not mistaken.

Yes, what you have there Neil is part of a light series bomb carrier.

I have a few of these for the Whitley.

Tempest practice bomb carrier

Could this be your mystery part? As you see the carrier just fitted externally to the standard bomb carrier. I know it was in use on OTU Typhoons – so why not Tempests too? The photo shows one on a BAFO Tempest immediately post war. Incidentally, I think the practice bombs were only 20 lb apiece.

Ive had abit look on
http://www.hawkertempest.se/

which is a great site and i think im understanding how it would of worked.

im not sure about the orientation but i think the pics are upside down at least.

the end with the mechanism would of fitted into a metal loop on the bomb?

with the V bracket to brace against the bomb?

also for aerodynamics it would of been enclosed in a metal housing?

do you think im close?????????

Definately bomb rack, but ‘light’ rack for 100Ib and 120Ib bombs. As fitted to Fairey Battles! Were they fitted to Tempests, or have you found a Battle?
