Does anyone know what kind of plane is used in the opening sequence of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” I’m pretty good with American biplanes, but over 20 years, I still havent found out what it is.
I know it’s NOT a Stearman, Travel Air, Detroit-Parks, or N3N. It might be one of the many WACO types. I doubt if it’s an Eaglerock, Arrow Sport, or Brunner-Winkle or some other rare antique, I’ve never seen one on floats. Of course, it could be a homebuilt.
And bonus points for the type biplane that crashes into the fuel truck in Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest.” I think the real plane is a Stearman, or N3N (I don’t have it on tape of DVDF to look at each frame). I think the explosion is a mythical mock-up made up of old parts,

The biplane is a 1933 Waco UBF-2, at the time of the movie it was owned by Henry Straunch, reg NC13075.Septic.
