Before this gets into to much US bashing, I’d be curious to see your own TOP 10 list of aircraft.
Mine, going on first thought in no particular order as that was the only one that didn’t make me think too hard:
1. Douglas DC-3-Where didn’t they fly? Wartime service with how many countries? Still flying, threw open the door for civil airline flying.
2. Boeing 707-Despite the Comet, the 707 probably established the civil jet airliner market. The Comet would be in this spot except for it’s tragic beginnings.
3. F4 Phantom. Still going after how many years in frontline service. Flew for many countries Took jet fighters to a new level.
4.B52-How many years in service? They’re still trying to top it as a bomber but it still soldiers on.
5. Spitfire/Me109 set the benchmark by which other, following WW2 fighters were measured.
6.B24 Liberator-Not as pretty as the 17 or the Lanc, but did the job as well or better in more theaters of the war then any other 4 engined bomber in WW2.
7.F86 Sabre/Mig15-The 109/Spit of the early jet era.
8.Piper Cub/Tiger Moth-Which one saw more private pilot’s solo?
9. T6/SNJ/Harvard-all those military pilots trained and flown by how many countries in one form or another.
10. SR71-Ahead of it’s time and still being chased.
Honorable mention-T33 Shooting Star. The jet fighter trainer.

Yes, just as a protest against the fact it was the French who killed the aircraft and it was they who inserted the superfluous ‘e’.
Anyway you are wrong. Neither is an aircraft since last week π‘

3. Avro Shackleton MR3 See them off and you wouldn’t see them in again, that was for the next shift.
4. The old faithful Avro Anson, the Cheetah radials must have been one of the most easiest piston jobs to service.
5. E E Canberra from an engine bods point of view the most serviceable kite around at that time.
6. Gloster Meteor NF14 just because it was a favourite
7. DH 125 Dominie Lovely looking aircraft
8. DH Comet 2c a schoolboys dream
9. Avro Vulcan on an engine run, standing under the wing was like being attached to a pneumatic drill
