Nanchang CJ-6 Gear up arrival, Canada

A bad day for some poor fellow. It was going to be such a smoooooooooth touch down as well.

As someone observed ”I bet that was a long walk back to the noodle bar ”.

he cut the engine before touchdown…

I’m afraid not. Look again. The engine indeed stopped before touchdown, but because the tips hit the runway before the airplane did.

Plenty about it on AVCanada ! This quote from F.1 sums it up ! :’I was there, it was real. The pilot has to pay for it. First he noticed that the gear wasn’t down was when the prop stopped! Lots of lessons learned…’

So yes nice landing with one exception!

I think the way he is dropping in it was an emergency, not a normal approach. A very good landing and the mags cut on touchdown, yes the canopies closed, may of been an oversight in all the excitement.
Glad all ended with a walkaway .

Is it really an emergency landing? The canopies are both closed -the engine is only cut back at the moment of touch down and the approach is quite lively ! There is also the availability of mown grass alongside the runway.

I bet MT-Propeller will provide new blades quite fast. Another example why wooden (composite) props are not the worst choice. Even if the engine were running, damage to engine parts are minimal. Have a look at the French Yak 3 crash. I bet that engine has a lot of damage in comparison. Metal props do have their disadvantages…..

At least one blade is not too bad.

Fire service (two guys with an extinguisher each) response was nonchalant….

Looks like he had shut the engine down before landing-if so well done him.

A very good emergency landing if i must say! The pilot obviously what he needed do to ensure he was safe and to prevent damage to the aircraft.

I’m guessing that as he cut the engine before touchdown it was deliberate? Gear failure???
