Those of you who, like me, are eagerly following the occasional news about the world’s only complete He-219, and can’t wait to see it assembled in all its sinister glory, might enjoy this:

Fascinating insights into the complexities of recreating the Luftwaffe night fighter scheme, and the lengths NASM are going to to get it right 🙂

Brilliant. The Uhu is one of my favourite Luftwaffe machines and when it is finished it shall be the cause of a trip to the USA.

That’s a very nice thought.

This one’s going to be awesome when it’s finally finished and in one piece. Can’t wait.
Maybe they’d let us borrow it one day to put alongside the Me 110 and Ju 88 at Hendon, temporarily.
Probably never, but we can dream …

Really enjoy the Smithsonian AirSpace blog.
Always has good articles showing the depth of research required for conservation and preservation of all many types of objects in their collection.
Any idea when the wing will be mated to the fuselage? I’d like to plan a visit in the future and would prefer to wait to see the completed aircraft.

Interesting – under the wing fillet must be one of the best preserved examples of “RLM84” or the blue/green variant of RLM76 (take your pick) around. They say the antenna array needs replacing as it has been lost – is it the same as fitted to Me110G and Ju88G nightfighters – or are they all specific to type?
I’m looking forward to seeing this one completed
No, not the same – NASM have inspected the Hendon Bf110/ Ju 88 array previously but it was of little help. AFAIK they have managed to source what is required in Europe to make a copy. Of course, if you happen to have a set in the shed, they will be most pleased to hear from you 😉
