National Geographic Channel to Show Classic Jets Docu.

I have recently been contacted by Pioneer Productions whom have been commissioned by the National Geographic Channel to produce a documentary on ex-Military Classic Jets and their civilian owners, the program will feature Mike Beachy-Head’s Buccaneer, ZU-AVI/XW988 along with an allsortment of other Classic machines.
As yet, it is not known when it will be shown, but as soon as I hear, I will post up the neccesary information, happy viewing 😀

I see from the Vampire Preservation Society website that they are to feature in a new series of programmes on classic jets for the Discovery Channel – coincidence?

Ashley and Nelson have shown me some more of the photos from Montana, and I must say they are stunning. Of course nothing can be shown on the net, but I can’t wait to buy a calendar.

… or perhaps take a peek at next month’s issue of another well known UK aviation journal. I think they are going to run with a couple of the photos.

Yes Mark, Bob Lutz of GM and I believe a former Marine pilot. They filmed Bob flying his L-39 (didn’t quite have the Alpha Jet ready) and I think some of his car collection. I’ve never met him, but I know he has flown with some of the other Hoppers.

Also the day before they had filmed with Bob Lutz, who would definately qualify as a tycoon.

Would that be Bob Lutz of Chrysler/General Motors?

The Hoppers did a day of filming at the end of June for this special. Don’t know if I like the title, but what little footage I saw looked OK. The production people filmed our brief, then had cameras in the planes and on the ground. Also the day before they had filmed with Bob Lutz, who would definately qualify as a tycoon.

It was fun, but it was a very long day.

Back in May I was contacted by this company regarding Canberras and had some dialogue with their research people. The last mail I had was a few weeks back which said . . .

I’m afraid that we couldn’t pursue the Canberra for various reasons including ownership.

We did however film a Blackburn Buccaneer, English Electric Lightning, L39 Albatross, L39 four man formation team, Mig 15, Cobra Attack helicopter and F104 Starfighter all flying. We went to Cape Town, the US and Canada to do our filming.

The programme will be called “Tycoon Toys: Planes” airing at the end of this year, beginning of next on National Geographic and looks at civilian owners of ex-military classic aircraft.

Thanks for all your help and all the best.

Seems it will be worth watching out for. 😉

Hope the programme includes some of Mike’s other Classic Jets too.

Please do! I watch national geographic often and they always show nice historical programs. This could become very interesting. 😉
That video footage of those jets could be stunning! 😎
