My Dad was pretty much the same, until it became impossible to buy anything like a TV or camera that was made in the UK (That was actually any good)
Still remember the grief I got when I showed up on very first motorcycle a Suzuki. 😮

Apropos of nothing I posted this on Facebook earlier…..

The ‘crime’ of this Australian soldier which warranted his execution was to have been found outside the camp in which he was held trying desperately to obtain medicines for his sick comrades. The words hero or heroic are often over used, maybe even abused, yet the manner in which this man risked his life to aid his comrades and the manner in which he faced his own death, can only be described as heroic in the truest sense of the word.
Maybe, by better men than I, some things can be forgiven, but equally, they should never be forgotten.

superb !! i used to help one of the old boys that was captured to paint his house etc ,
he did not discuss anything but right up to his death in the mid 90’s he would not buy any japanese product !!

It’s a powerful piece of advertising. If I’ve got it right, Jack Jennings was Suffolks then Cambridgeshire Regiment, captured at the fall of Singapore. Some time spent at Changi, then the railway before being returned to Changi. I suspect it was the return to the terrible conditions at Changi which enabled him to survive rather than enduring the even more abysmal conditions along the railway or in Japan.
Thought provoking.
