We did try and flog a couple of Type 45 to Saudi Arabia but they didn’t bite.

I think it was along the lines of seven and eight going to them which would of helped fund nine and ten going to the RN allowing a force of eight.

Saudi Arabia Muling BMD – Capable destroyer

Can I get BAE to sell them this – with a follow on order for the RN for our own SAMPSON version. Bringing down the cost of another 2 for us?

The BBC is reporting that the head of the General Staff of the PLA is in fact confirming for the first time what we all have unofficially known for a long time, that the work being done on her is to bring the ex-Varyag into PLAN service as its first Aircraft Carrier.

we can agree on that then. and that is the old MLP design the new one uses a off the shelf design but the ship pretty much pulls along side a LMSR and the vehicles onboard are offloaded to that then sent ashore by JHSV, LCAC,s and landing barges, or foreign allied craft. Lets also hope they get worthy names too.

besides I’m certain there is someone you would loath if the royal navy was going to name a ship for

Yup. Anyone from the Royal Family. I put this one down as an unwinnable fight myself 🙂 Luckily serving in the RN one isn’t required to take the same oath to the aristocracy that the pongoes (and by extension the crabfats) do.

Anyhoo the MLP ship looks interesting. Not sure I fully understand its role, but interesting.

Yeah. A nation based on the dream of freedom, a chance to make a better life away from the biases, descrimination and repression of other nations. Breaking free of big landowners. A dream of being able to work hard and better onself. Why would that nation want to honour a man who helped workers stand up for their rights? That’d be insane. Especially if he was from an immigrant family. Immigration in the USA, bonkers.

the man hated illegal immigrants and his time in the navy, did little to stop union violence. not exactly someone you should name a ship for. besides I’m certain there is someone you would loath if the royal navy was going to name a ship for

but alot in the US naval communities are still upset about the USNS Ceaser Chavez. ITs not like it is political pandering or anything….

well its not like there was already a USS JFK, oh wait there was, sorry but alot in the US naval communities are still upset about the USNS Ceaser Chavez. ITs not like it is political pandering or anything….

Besides look at some of my posts on shipbucket, warships1 or even here and you will see I wasn’t thrilled with CVN-77 or 78 names either, besides I would have no problem with another FDR its just this democrat is extremely overrated.

Do you really think that’s something worth polluting a thread about worldwide naval news on a British internet forum with? I suggest you remove it. It’s inappropriate.

BTW, there are six aircraft carriers named after republican presidents, & only four named after democrats, including two presidents. It’d be more appropriate (though still out of place here) to complain about shrines to members of the US republican party.

another USS Kennedy… not as bad as USNS Cheasr Chavez but there are more important names in us naval history that are being ignored for another shrine to the US democrats.
