I am researching for information on the MkI or MkII navigation lights.
They were used between the wars, and are bullet shaped bodies set atop small arms to stand away from the surface.
The RAF museum has one on the Navigator site, but no data.
ANY information would be appreciated. (drawings, photos, history, I’ll even buy one!).
Cheers,
Ed

OneEigthBit,
Yes please. If you would like to email me at ers f2b at gmail.com that would work great. I split the eamil so as to screw up the spamers. Thanks for the help.
cheers,

I am in the process of accumulating the electrical parts needed for a resto of a Bolingbroke IV (and as intalled in a Blenheim IV) and I need information on the lights used on the aft part of the wing tip. They are termed “formation keeping lights”. I can’t make out what the stores number is on the drawing. It might be 5c/808. Does anybody have positive verification that this is the correct stores number? Does anybody have a photo of one of these wing tip formation keeping lights?
cheers
5C/793 is the body and 5C/1914 is the hood that holds the resin filter I belive.
Seen several discussion on them in the past. Know a lot of aircraft had them WWII and the Meteors at our museum have them too and look exactly as above.

Which Bolingbroke restoration is this?

Ed, regarding the Mk.I – the restoration team at the Jet Age Museum made two for the top of our Gloster Gamecock and having seen them up close it’s hard to know they aren’t the real thing.
If you’re after a couple and repro’s will do I can put you in touch with the guy built ours.

5C/808 is a chartboard lamp of the type mounted on nav tables etc it has a crocodile type clip and dimmer switch attached. If you meant 5C/803 it may make more sense as that is a formation keeping lamp used on both port and starboard. Hope this helps.

MK 1 Nav Lights
Hi Ed
Here are some photo’s of the MK1 nav lights, they were fitted to many types, from the DH9a to Hawker biplanes “including the Bristol Bulldog :D”.
the 2 fitted to the wings had coloured lenses, whilst the one on the tail had a clear one.
Hope this helps.

Is this what you are asking about. I aquired it in a collection of parts from someone who worked in the old Sandhurst breakers, breaking up planes after the war.

Refer your origional post, line 2.
Mine still has the pinky/brown stores label still attached.
It takes the standard 5C/494 shroud and 5-CX493 lens.

NAV light
Stan,
I am very interested in the light. But, I am not familiar with “stickyup” lights.
I will try to find one with the 5C numbers.
Also……..ANY parts, esp. lens’s will help.
Cheers,
Ed
