Navy aircraft loss Northumberland ID help

A long shot but with minimal information.

I have witnesses to an aircraft which belly landed in Northumberland.
It was twin engine (propeller) or maybe not!!
Believed to be Navy aircraft or maybe not!!
Crew survived
late 1950s/early 1960s
Longhorsley, Northumberland

Can anyone fill in the very large gaps

Regards

Chris

Rob,

Forgive my ignorance,
You note that the crew were L/C M W Henley and S/Aldrich A L Brown RCAF. – what is L/C & S/Aldrich?

Dave & Rob,

You note that the crew were L/C M W Henley and S/Aldrich A L Brown RCAF. – is that 2 or 3 crew?

Longhorsley is is approximately 7 miles from RAF Acklington.
The date you have will be correct as the article was published 2 days after the crash (a weekly newspaper)

Anyone got the ORB

Thank you once again.

It’s not LongHorsley but it is in Northumberland.

Less than 10 miles apart, maybe Acklington is where it was heading for

From http://www.ukserials.com/losses-1958.htm

07/03/1958
WL733 Sea Balliol T21
Old Sarum Station Flt Force landed at Acklington, Northumberland after the engine lost power due to overheating. To the AIU at Lee-on-Solent and then to Fleetlands before being struck off charge

Could this be the aircraft ?

I have Boulton Paul Sea Balliol WL733 of the RN section school of land/air warfare, Old Sarum, force landed at Acklington after engine lost power on the 7th March 1958. Crew were Lieutenant Commander M W Henley and S/Ldr A L Brown RCAF.
It’s not LongHorsley but it is in Northumberland.

This comes from the superb book Fleet Air Arm Fixed Wing Aircraft since 1946.

I have managed to trace the incident.

The aircraft was a Navy aircraft.

Friday 14th March 1958
Boulton Paul Balliol two-seater trainer.
From RAF Old Sarum, Salisbury.

Could anyone provide any further details please, Sqn, crew, RAF Old Sarum Station ORB etc.

Regards in advance

Hi David,

I was presenting a talk at the said history society, that’s where the story came from.

I have an appointment at the local newspaper archives next week

I’d suggest a trawl through local newspapers. Get a firm date and more info and the rest should be a lot easier.

It appears that it may not be a Navy aircraft after all, but civil!
However, the other details remain the same……any ideas?
