HI folks, as you were all so quick and good with my Wattisham site question, I thought I’d give you another one!!
This is near the old Sudbury airfield, go through Acton and it is on the left as you are heading towards Long Melford. Indicated here; http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=52.077722&lon=0.747917&z=17.4&r=0&src=msl
When I was there some people were saying it is an instructional site, some were saying it was a large off base hospital. My photos are on my RAF Sudbury webpage here; http://www.airfields.fotopic.net/c1491506.html – listed at the bottom of the page as “unknown”
Any help greatfully appreciated as it is not on any plans I have for the airfield.

I came across this on the web
http://www.babergh-south-suffolk.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/4A15B8FA-CA1C-4AED-B773-01B6F20C3EB5/0/airfields.pdf
It indicates that the area I was unsure of was defiantely the old USAAF hospital at Acton.
Can anyone help Identify the “Unknown” buildings? First 10 of my collection. I am still a bit stuck with them!

Thanks for the replies on this one, where exactly was the Station 382 depot? Constitution Hill in Sudbury is not the place I was asking about but if there is much of it left it would be worth a visit down there again.
I am stuck on this site I photographed at Acton, I can find any records of it anywhere.

Slightly off thread, but zoom in on Flashearth and you can quite clearly see a steam locomotive and rolling stock on the site.
A few years ago, the Finnish Government decided to get rid of it’s strategic reserve of steam locos, which were hidden in caves I believe.
Several of them ended up at the Acton site, unfortunately, whoever bought them didn’t appear to appreciate that they were 5’0” gauge rather than the British 4’81/2”, whether they understood the implications of this, I never found out.
Some of them ended up at Ongar in Essex, at the end of the closed tube railway, the idea being to relay the branch in 5’0”, a daunting task which has now been abandoned for obvious reasons.
When these locos first arrived, which must have been around the time of the demise of the Phantoms at Wattisham, we used to call in at Acton to see them, they were in pristine condition, but they must have deteriorated since then, presumably no one knows what to do with this out of gauge fleet, does anyone have any more knowledge on the story of this misadventure.

Sudbury depot came under the command of RAF Burtonwood. It was a BADA (Base Air Depot Area) and was Detachment B of Base Air Depot No.1 ,the maintenance division activated in June 1944.Now Sudbury airfield is AAF station 174,I have the depot as AAF 158 also. The depot was deactivated 22.10.45 although some unit’s may have remained till May.1946.
This is the best I can find at present, hopefully someone else can provide more information.
