Need Novel ideas for my Novel…get it??? Novel id

How do everyone!!!
As you may remember, despite my young age I am planning to write my own fictional war novel. Despite the fact that I have planned numerous potential conflicts for my book, they all sound like something written before. For example my main idea was for a coup in Saudi to throw the region into chaos…like no one has read something along those lines before.
Another idea was a Chinese territorial expansion campaign to engulf the Pacific, sound familiar???

So here’s the thing. I was hoping for some help in getting a large scale conflict up and running in South America. Something along the lines of:
Brazil, under military rule invades the Falklands with the Sao Paulo as its main weapon supplying air cover for Brazilian Marines with upgraded Skyhawks. Britain faces chaos when Gr.9 Harriers armed with Sidewinders are knocked out of the sky by Brazilian AMRAAMski missiles from Su-35 fighters.
Argentina and Uruguay throw in their support for Brazil. Following the success….WHAT?!? This is where I get lost. How can I broaden the conflict? Would for example Venezuela and the U.S. rush to the aid of a fallen Britain? Could Cuba decide to take advantage of the chaos? How about a Columbian attack on the Panama Canal? Could Honduras invade Belize?

HELP!!! (oh, go on please help)

RE: Something completely different..

The poitical background of your story cant be too outlandish. At this point of time south america and most of the world for that matter is at peace, and trying to sell a story where south american countrys team up against eachother to invade a conquere will be a hard sell. Things can change radically as history as shown and all that could happen in the future, but if you want a story to take place in the present, Id suggest focusing on the technical aspects of an isolated military conflict. The thread I suggested before in the archive has alot of material for making a good novel:”Tu-22M Backfires vs. CVBG”. Hunt for Red October didnt have a storyline per se. It was just a good book documenting an incident.

Ahhhhhh, so you’re going to write a porn novel…interesting :+

What is the best way to plan a COMBAT novel, I have a basic idea of the time frames for it as follows:

Source Material and Research (now that would be fun for a porn novel) should take between 6-12 months.
Basic storyline should follow from between 1-3 months. This should include characters, basic plot etc.
Revision of storyline, 1-2 months.
Final proposal and complete story, 3-6 months.

Is this plan realistic???

Something completely different..

Stopping me? Easy, it has not been written. Anyway, some humour..

Presenting a report to the Galactic counsel of star systems, the Alien ambassador made his speech.

Ambassador: “I am here to inform you on studies we have made on a mysterious planet we located many millennia ago on a distant side of the galaxy outside our counsel’s jurisdiction”

The Counsel: “What is this place?”

Ambassador: “Well, we call it S-3450, but the inhabitants call it Earth”

The Counsel: “Why has this planet attracted your attention for so long?”

Ambassador: “Well we, along with the others believe we have discovered the greatest enigma of the known universe there”

The Counsel: “What? That system is young and according to your report the life forms there are primitive. What is this Universal enigmatic entity?”

Ambassador: “The Human female!”

Funny that! Someone else on another forum thought it was his work as well. Not writing a novel, well at least not yet. Just wanted to test a bit I thought of and see if I could pass it off as a decent piece of writing. Years ago I was working on a novel idea called “Claws of the Red Dragon” about how the Chinese, North Korean, and Vietnamese got together to take over the prosperous South East Asia. Hell, I even designed, drew and framed a cover design for it as well. I have a 20 page typed manuscript for the story outline buried away some where.

I started this when I got back from Japan 6 years ago and it was inspired by the events of the Taiwan/China crisis in the same year. Ever since then my interest in Chinese affairs and their military has been strong.

Tomel, hey, I too wish I had more time to read more novels, I find myself buried in more journals and news reports these days than anything else, when I GET time to read them.

Quiz..

Can anyone guess what techno-thriller this is taken from?

The locker room was warm from misty steam but quiet and he felt alone. The swim had been rejuvenating and the shower afterwards refreshing but he had things to do now and people to see. Sitting down in front of his locker he couldn’t help but notice a small brief case sitting on top of the lockers to the left of his, he hadn’t noticed it there before and he wondered if anyone had left it behind or forgotten it. He glanced around to see if there was anyone else present, but nothing, he was alone.

He thought nothing of it after a moment and surely someone would return for it if they had left it behind. Startled soddenly, he stood up to the ringing of his mobile phone buried in the locker, clambered for the key, inserted it and opened the locker door. In that instant he surely didn’t feel a thing, or his brain didn’t have time to register the sheer pain of his body been ripped apart by the explosive contained in that mysterious brief case. The explosion was huge, wrecking the locker room and damaging almost the entire floor with shrapnel and flame spewing out into the pool area. The intended victim and the locker room had ceased to exist, not a lot was left to clean up. The target had been eliminated.

Regards, Glenn.

Flanker-Go to search and look up in the archive “Tu-22M Backfires vs. CVBG”(unfortunately you cant post on/bring up again archived threads 🙁 ). That thread really has some great hypothetical analysis. Infact, its technical accuracy and not the story that makes a good military novel. Tom Clancys Hunt for Red October was a smash success because he had naval personal proofread his book and correct all the inaccuracys. In my opinion every book after Red October shows Clancy for being just another run of the mill military author.

Loads of help and great ideas, thanks guys…I will look at each of them and if I do get my novel published (eventually) I WILL GIVE YOU ALL A MENTION. Even though it will look a little strange with:

“I wish to thank my fellow Aviation Forum collegues Tomel, Tex, Harry ETC ETC”

written in the acknowledgements section. :+

Flanker try to picture this,South East Asia-2005.Malaysia political leaders has changed from liberal to hard core Islamic hardliners.(at the moment this not so hard core Islamic party have managed to govern 2 state).Indonesian govt -thrown outside the window cause the people cannot cope with the pressure social/economical.Current president ex Gen.Haryono decided to to do something in order to maintain power/shift the people attention from their weak economy.
Singapore has to maintain a strong relations with both US/Israel in order to make sure any aggressors would think twice before do anything stupid.President.Alex Lee got no choice but to beef up RSAF with JSF/F16 Block 52/60,AWACS,F15ES.On the other hand RMAF use- SU 30MKM,MIG 29N,Gripen and Ericcson Erieye.Indonesia do not enough money to buy adv a/c but they have large army/marine backed up by large surface fleet(mostly ex soviet).
Flashpoint:RSN A19 subs gone missing in the Straits of Malacca,SAR is on but there is strong indication to suggest an act of sabotage.RSAF/RSN ask for USAF P3C /DSRV to help out and in the heat of the moment Indonesian F16 shot down US P3C.US SEAL/DELTA are ready to attack Iswahyudi AB(Falcon nest) but to their surprise Malaysia using FH 70,G5,CEASER 155MM howitzer+ASTROS 2 fired towards Singapore city. Most of the F16s/JSF(Tengah/Paya Lebar AB)were destroyed.RMAF/Indonesian use F16/FA 18D,HAWK 200,GRIPEN to selectively bomb an inportant targets.Marines +Malaysia elite RDF troops lead the strike force dubbed Halilintar.UK/US/AUS send reinforcement +carrier to save the Lion city but Malaysia Scorpene class subs armed with Exocet +frigates(from both country)+su 30MKM could spell air to air engagements in the Indian ocean.Brunei got no choice but to surrender to Malaysia Rangers cause all of the Brunei troops support the moves to evict US/Israel from the region.I could go on with this foolish scenario but i prefer you to further develop it.

RE: Need Novel ideas for my Novel…get it??? Nove

Does anyone remember late in 2000 there were a couple of really awsome threads about senarios invoving carriers attacking russian bears or AWACS or something. The threas spun off on something about tomcats, Tom was really involved in that one.

Flanker-If you want a political background for your conflict, youve got:

a)Oil embargo, brings not only industrialized countrys to knees, but deveoping countrys increasingly dependant on mobile infrustruture for food distribution and work.

b)Country like Iran finally gets nukes, they go off all over the world, population of world cut in half in one week.

c)World wide crop famine caused by insectaside resitant pest, genetically engineered fungas, etc(a very realistic senario if your familiar with the overuse of pestasides, drugs in cattle, genetic engineering-which does irreverable damage.

Red Storm was a little too large, and a little too pro-US. The main aim I have in novel writting is too break the old West beats East rubbish you always read about.
On the topic of a continent war which you suggested, is there any real alliance there???

millions of indonesians overwhelm the 20 odd million australiens ???

on the south american idea how about a conitnet wide war – argentina and peru vs brazzil and chil (split the rest up acordingly). could have some great fun.

for a gcse nocel i wrot the first chapter of falkand part deux in 2010+ wiht new carrier and jsf.

belize is intresting cos of scale down of uk forces would mean amphibious assult say stageded out of the caymens.

the problem with these book is to do it properly you could end up writing a red storm (which was a too vaster area to be covered fully – as clancy admits) – r write mamoths like executive order, vortex or red phonex (800+ pages in paperback)
