Need some advise please

Hello all, I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7. Not a bad little camera, sadly cant afford a dslr.

I am struggling with my manual settings, i.e the aperature settings and shutter speeds.
I was experimenting at Duxford this month. And a lot of them were a little on the dark side.

I was standing towards the centre and it was bright.

So if anyone can kindly point out the error of my ways i would be greatful

David

In Windows XP this is really easy.

Right click on an original image file in My Computer or Explorer and select properties.

Some tabs across the top, one is called Summary, click on it.

If there’s no information, then there may be a button marked Advanced, click on it.

If there is information, then there will probably be a button marked simple.

Note on the Simple view, you can add your own information, such as a title, subject, comments, etc…

The advanced view might be empty, if it isn’t an original unedited file. There are tools around that enable you to add exif data manually, do an Internet search for exif tools, or some such.

EXIF can be found using most photo display/processing s/w and even web browsers.

I donno what OS you are using but I believe that the newer version allow you to right click>properties>details and you can find out the key info like : ISO, aperture, shutter speed and focal length.

Don’t worry about not having a DSLR. You have started out the right way and by using the M mode you are actually learning about 90% of the stuff you need when you finally make you transition to DSLR.

When you posted these pics you resized them and scrubbed off the EXIF data, so its pretty difficult to tell you what went wrong. If you can post the EXIF data on both these pics it would help.

Where would i find the EXIF data?

(Im always playing about with my camera, taking pictures of just about every thing!!)

There is a lot of light coming into your camera from the sky, which is overpowering you light meter. Open up an f stop and see if that will make any difference to the aircraft but you will loose the detail in the clouds
At Duxford, you are facing south, into the sun…. or towards the sun which is not recommended for photography.
Get the sun at your back is the answer.

Persevere with the manual mode, there’s not that many that are so adventurous.
