I’m trying to find out some information on a relative of mine who was a USAF gunner during WW2.
All i’ve know is that his name is Elias Charles Fassio, and he was a gunner, possibly rear gunner on a bomber.
It’s either in Northamptonshire or Bedfordshire, and at some point he was wounded.
Can anybody supply any information, or point me in the right direction?
I’m not sure if he was a gunner on a light or heavy bomber, i’ve only just learnt of this information, and after some prelimineary research, i’ve learnt that a bomber group was based at RAF Bedford from 42 – 46 that flew B-17’s, but as i said, i don’t know what airbase he was based at and if he was on light bombers or heavys.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know how common a name Elias Charles Fassio is or was, but I’ve found a death in 1991 for a gentleman with this name. Born in 1906 he’d be at least 37 when in Europe but his age would not necessarily preclude his presence, if he is your man that is.
Hope this helps.

It is not an uncommon name and I also found the death that Kev found, so an idea of his age in the service would be a great help.:)

Thanks for all the information guys, its very much appreciated. I’ll try and find out as much extra information as i can. Would be strange if that is my man, as i’m going to Detroit, MI in a couple of weeks, where he is buried! Its a shame there is not any more info about his career on there, i’ll see what bomber units were based in Pensylvania that were based in the UK at the time.
Thanks guys!
