Nepal Crash Kills 18 People

Nepal Crash Kills 18 People:

Fifteen western tourists are among eighteen people reported to have been killed when a plane belonging to privately-owned Shangri-La Airlines crashed in Nepal.

The plane, a Twin Otter, was flying from Jomosom to the town of Pokhara, a popular tourist destination.

Those who died include 13 Germans, one UK and one US citizen. The three-man Nepalese crew also lost their lives, according to a BBC report.

Controllers lost contact with the aircraft around 20 minutes before it was due to land at Pokhara, which is 120 miles west of the Nepalese capital Kathmandu.

The aircraft vanished from radar screens after flying into thick cloud and aviation officials say bad weather may have been a contributory factor in the crash.

The region has been badly hit by exceptionally heavy monsoon rains for several weeks.

Doesn´t sound nice either. When was that?. Real Ryanair flight, Flight simulator?….nightmare?. No thanks. That sounds too familiar as the regular landings in winter in my SCQ. Just a question. The man on the picture, is that you?.

RE: Nepal Crash Kills 18 People

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-08-02 AT 09:13 AM (GMT)]keltic try a landing in a Boeing 737-800 at Dublin airport with torential rain and a fogged-in airport (we were last flight allowed in!) when the runway is completly covered in water, the plane is a full load with full cargo (full payload in other words!) and the pilot is landing for the first time on a passenger flight!

Well ill tell u that kinda landing aint nice and from a passenger point as the reverse thrust didnt seem to work and we nearly ended up off the runway from this pilots sterring! He didnt releaise when we touched down the plane would pull to the side of the runway so he would need to conteract with rudder pedals, well he didnt realise and he recovered just in time!

Very scary landing 🙂 😀 🙂 😀

I hate all take offs in all types of planes. But bad weather and lack of visibility is always a reason for major concern. Visibility a shabby plane and Katmandu Airport is a bad combination. I am not sure if it was a HS748 or a Naycs.

What sort of plane is that Keltic?

Do you think your safety concerns are weather-based or rather more general in nature?

RE: Nepal Crash Kills 18 People

I remember my flights from Varanasi into Katmandu airport, originally with Indian Airlines and then on a charter flight for our spanish groups on an old plane…..no idea of the type which had to fly in the middle of the low clouds…..It was before the main PIA and THAI crashes but I wasn´t particularly amused. I include the pic before taking off. The landing was even more foggy.
