New Aircraft Exhbits at UK Museums

During 2013, the Bristol Aero Collection added a reproduction Bristol Fighter, a dismantled Avro RJX, and the prototype Whitakker MW4 (technically the last aircraft to be build at Filton). Of course, the collection is not currently open to the public, although there are occasional group visits to the Brab hangar at Filton where all the exhibits are held.

There was corrosion under the wings and elsewhere on the airframe. This has all been treated and repaired.

I hope Phantom XV401 was cheap ! Her wings were in a bad way when I last looked at Boscombe!

Slingsby Cadet TX.3 WT918 to Aeropark and Ercoupe G-AVTT to South Yorkshire Air Museum Doncaster spring to mind!

It was supposed to be coming when I went to Chateaudun? to collect the Mirage 538 way back in mid 1995 and it still has not arrived not even by road!! It will be long wait. Just wait and see

! Bet you can’t wait to receive the lV as and when…..:o

Thanks for the mention Dean. We have also acquired Phantom FGR.2 XV401. This was actually purchased by us whereas XV497 and XV460 are on loan.

BCWM acquired the Phantom XV497 and Harrier ZD667 just over a year ago, with the nose of Phantom XV460 earlier this year.

Brooklands Museum took possession of Sopwith Tabloid replica (actually built beautifully on site by volunteers) and, more recently, a Jet Provost moved in from Brooklands College to join their Jetstream. Also, last year, the museum received the nose of a Viscount. They now have one complete Viscount and two noses plus FOUR VC-10s – one complete at the museum, one complete ‘active’ at Dunsfold, a fatigue test nose section and a complete fuselage. How’s that for multiples! Oh and two Concordes (one complete and one 40% scale model) and add to that some sections from a Concorde fatigue test airframe AND a Concorde simulator you can ‘fly’.

We at the east midlands aeropark have had WW442 Percival Provost which was acquired from Gatwick A.M, and XV108 VC10 front half of the fuselage !

The Assault Glider Project’s Horsa Replica and Waco Hadrian transfered from RAF Shawbury to RAF Museum Cosford store.

A few additions/restorations/changes I can think of off the top of my head..

BCWM acquired the Phantom XV497 and Harrier ZD667 just over a year ago, with the nose of Phantom XV460 earlier this year.
The Kestrel and EAP went on display at RAFM Cosford.
VC-10 to Dunsfold to go to Brooklands
VC-10 to Bruntingthorpe
Classic Air Force have acquired a BAC 1-11, Harrier Gr3 and VC-10
Bournemouth acquired the nose of BAC 1-11 ZE432
Coventry got a Tornado Gr1 (or Gr4?)
Wattisham acquired a Lynx AH7

Probably the last major influx was the Nimrod disposal a few years back.

Didn’t Brooklands take on a VC-10 retired to Dunsfold? And there is still talk of ‘Bob’ going to Cosford eventually.
