A new airline to hit the skies, straight out of the Ukraine, Aeromist. Nice aircraft and a very nice c/s! 🙂
Yes, Apple Vaccations has already leased a 757 off of Thomas cook. When TC were known as JMC, Apple Vaccations were using some of their aircraft most of the time.
Heres a pictures of it in the Hybrid c/s.

RE: New airline, and Apple Vaccations has already nicked a 757 from thomas cook!
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-12-02 AT 00:46Â AM (GMT)]To further confuse the wet/dry lease issue, there are also operating/finance leases which is a more standard (outside the airline business) term for wet/dry. The one where the lessee provides their own crew/maintainance etc. may count as a finance lease, whereas the one where the lessor provide the crew/maintainance etc. are counted as operating leases. Sorry, but I can’t remember which way round the wet/dry is (trust airlines to invent their own peculiar terminology!)
You will find that airlines include finance leased aircraft on their balance sheets, but not those on operating leases. This is due to a UK accounting standard, “reporting the substance of transactions”.
On a finance lease, the lessee enjoys the benefits of ownership of the aircraft and also bears the costs of ownership. In this regard, it is akin to the airline buying the aircraft from the lessor by means of a loan which is secured on the aircraft. That’s why finance leased aircraft are on the books of the airlines operating them and NOT the lessor’s books. Globally, accounting standards are converging and they are centring around the UK standards (yippee!) so expect to see this apply to all airlines (even US carriers) within 5 years.

Lessor = legal owner
Lessee = operator

Most of the logos on the sides of aircraft are just stickers aren’t they? Not many are painted on, or have I been mis-enformed?

I’m not exactly sure how they apply the titles, however when they come back refinished in JMC logos you can still see a ghost image of Apple Vacations on the side. Apple are an entirely American company and are nothing to do with JMC or Thomas Cook other than linked by this contract.
We also supply aircraft and/or crews to –
Garuda Indonesia
Air Atlanta Icelandic
Air Seychelles
Air 2000
We have had requests for crew from –
Britannia

Really like the An140,although I think that Saab has hit the nail on the head ref its future prospects. Am I right in thinking that it is to be built under licence in Iran or India (or both)?

How are the TC logos applied/removed during these loan spells ? Are they actually painted on in the first place and then painted over ? Are they removable transfers like the ones that you sometimes see applied on commercial road vehicles ?

RE: New airline, and Apple Vaccations has already nicked a 757 from thomas cook!
Apple Vacations have been borrowing our aircraft and crews every winter for several years. For those that want it we can either be based in Milwaukee, Chicago or Detroit and fly to Mexico and the Caribbean for 6 months over winter.
Almost every charter airline has a set up with some one else in order to utilise their aircraft and crew over the winter. It is entirely voluntary but can be VERY lucrative to those who chose to do it. I personally do not as I have done a lot of world travel during my 9 years of long haul and would rather enjoy the quiet winter period in the UK. I worked 1 day in November and have 3 days work in December, all while still being on full pay!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-12-02 AT 07:29Â PM (GMT)]The An-140 is another one of those aircraft, which if marketed in Western Europe could do rather well. However, a result of poor efficiency and financing in the Former USSR aviation industry, this aircraft will not be bought by airlines in large quantities by many Eastern European operators and no Western European airlines. Such a shame, a beautiful aircraft just like the TU-204.

So Apple vactions I presume does not actually exist? Does it just rely on “borrowing” aircraft from British Charters?
