A really nice piston engined a/c has gone by road into Wickenby tonight – drove past it North of Lincoln about 22.00. Big radial, 3 blades and folding wings – think Reg was G-BDTY looked like a lovely piece of kit. Ideas? The ladies didnt understand me gawping out of the back window, like a 10 year old, of course…

that’s the one! I’m no engineer, but through a windscreen at night it looked like a radial engine!

whatever that thing is in the picture, that was it, but with a 3 bladed prop we were behind it for 7 miles! The wings were certainly folded, not stacked by the sides
Come on, somebody must have a contact at Wickenby?

From your description it could only be a Vought F4U Corsair!

the folding wings & 3-blade prop might be a ‘modified’ argus!

G-BDTY = a Scottish Aviation Bulldog, so clearly a mis-read in the dark.
