New Aurigny routes

From BBC Guernsey:

Aurigny Air Services, the airline owned by the States of Guernsey, wants to run a new service between Jersey and London.
It is applying to Jersey’s transport authorities to fly direct between Jersey and London’s Stansted Airport.

The company wants to fly a year-round scheduled service between Jersey and Stansted starting on 1 September.

Only summer charter flights operate between Jersey and Stansted at the moment.

Application objections:

Aurigny is also applying for a service between Bournemouth and Jersey starting on the same date.

People who object to the applications have two weeks to put their claims in writing to Jersey’s Economic Development committee.

Guernsey’s government bought the airline after British Airways stopped flying from Guernsey to Gatwick.

Aurigny’s management argued it would remove any uncertainty over the Gatwick link.
**************
“Two can play at this game” referring to Le Cocqs who are going into competition with Aurigny on inter island. Obviously Aurigny wants to spoil their monopoly on the Bournemouth route and I don’t see how the Jersey authorities have any other choices but to grant them a license. The Stansted route is welcome for the island. They turned down the route a couple of years ago though there has been a lot of priority place on getting it back.

I think that there will be too much capacity on the Bournemouth route, no way could two airlines sustain services there in the winter. With two carriers currently flying to Southampton from Jersey there will be too much capacity in the area for flights to actually operate at a profit in my opinion. Aurigny asked for a license to operate from Guernsey to Bournemouth a couple of months ago though withdrew their application a few days later, from this it is obviously just another way to have a quick snap at Le Cocqs.

Stansted has always been popular from here so I don’t think Jersey will be any different. When KLM UK pulled out of the route around 5 years ago, Aurigny did offer to fly the route along with the Southampton route though pulled out of their Stansted application because of low demand for the route with them subsequently also not receiving the Southampton route.

It is good to see Aurigny not just concentrating on Guernsey. Okay I pleased with the expansion they have given the island in terms of routes in the last few years, I doubt other airlines would be so forthcoming to operate Guernsey domestic routes which are pivotal in the finance, tourism and general well being of islanders. However, I believe Jersey has been neglected with little to no expansion in the last years even though it has always been a major focus for Aurigny.

If they get it I bet they will start it with the Saabs before fairly soon using ATRs and then binning the Sheds.
