A friend of my youngest daughter is a very young lad called Matt Hope. Not long out of school, he has decided to embark on a road to trying his hand at aviation art. So far he has only completed two paintings – his very first efforts! I think he deserves every encouragement:

If you are reading this thread please check you website e-mails. If not, Andy, please give him a nudge.
Thanks

I love paintings that are ‘Aircraft in landscapes’ rather than simply ‘Aircraft in close-up’ and these head well in that direction, especially the Hurricane skyscape.
Bloody brilliant!

Same. My favourite aircraft painting is of the float equipped tiger moth resting in the sunset.

Some nice efforts for an up and coming young artist. The clouds/sea/backgrounds look stunning. Please do not get disheartened and do use this constructive critique to your advantage because I believe it’s better to tell you and have you improve your techniques than to go with the masses and just say “Hey they look fantastic”.
The topside and side views of the aircraft look fine from what I can see in the small previews on your site. Please, please check the undersides of the wings as they look distorted and strange. Could be the way you have lit them or the perspective might be off. That goes for the Hurricanes and the 109’s. Improve and perfect this aspect of your work and I can see no reason for you to not be up there with the greats in a few years. Well done and keep at it Matt as you have great potential… 🙂

I am trying to persuade him to have a stand at Shoreham on 6 April. I think a great many people would appreciate his work, there. And I think it would give him a great deal of confidence to see and hear that appreciation.
I know Matt has been very bouyed up by the comments here, so if you are reading this, Matt, think about clearing your diary for 6 April….!

He’s very talented! Excellent stuff! I hate him!

Excellent stuff, he’s nailed the proportions of the aircraft and the lighting, which have always struck me as the hardest things to get right. As others have said the clouds on the Hurricane picture are particularly dramatic.

Sound advice, Hot Charlie.
I know Matt will already be encouraged by the comments here, anyway.

Very impressive!
Magnificent sky with the Hurricanes.
Quite a talent, young Mr Hope!
Indeed. Spectacular cloud structure.
They are really good, actually really really good.I wonder if he would be interested in posting on here http://ehangar.com/
My only caution is that they can be very, sometimes overly, critical. I know of a young artist who’s work was picked apart and I haven’t seen him since. I’d let him develop a little more of a portfolio (or put more of it on the web first).:)

As a dabbler myself I wish the young man well and good luck, I do like his Hurricane image, his clouds set it apart from the normal everyday background, and I mean that in a really positive way.
