The new route provides quick, easy and affordable access to the beautiful North East of Scotland by significantly cutting the traditional time consuming options of road or rail travel that business and leisure travellers to the region currently endure.

We remain committed to growing our operation in the region to provide more services across Europe for both business and leisure travellers and this is just the start of a series of exciting developments as we continue to build on our position as the number one carrier in the Midlands.”

BIA Comment:

“This is fantastic news for Birmingham International Airport offering passengers even more choice to travel to Aberdeen from their local Airport. Bmibaby have a strong partnership with the Airport and we are delighted to see their portfolio of routes expanding.”

bmibaby is forecasting to carry over 2 million passengers from the Midlands region in 2006 and by the end of this year will also be the biggest carrier at Birmingham International Airport

In June, bmibaby launched its winter timetable for travel from 29th October 2006 through until 24th March 2007 with fares 18% lower than the previous year.

bmibaby is the only major low cost airline to offer free seats for infants (under 2 years of age) on board all its flights.

Great news for BHX and Baby with a new destination for them.

So by about March next year the Aberdeen route from Birmingham will have three airlines on board, namely BACON (ERJs), Flybe (Q400) and Baby (737s). I could have a preety good guess on who would be the first to pull off but I maybe wrong.

What’s everyone else’s opinion?

By the by flyBE were putting the E195 on the route, not the DH8D. Unless they’ve changed their mind.

Indeed you are right Richard, I forgot this detail and just assumed the aircraft was the Q400.

“Flybe also announces that it will deploy the brand new Embraer 195 on the Birmingham – Aberdeen route which will allow increased passenger numbers on this key domestic route linking the Midlands with Scotland”

BACON I think.

Flybe announced NWI then axed it before commencement (ironically that would have had 3 operators as well – bmi Reg, Eastern & Flybe- had the latter proceeded). I can’t see Flybe backing off this time, would not enhance their reputation up here if they did the same a 2nd time.

Given BACON’s “troubles” going by what you hear, they may be the ones to go.

Agree cannot see 3 operators on one route.
