BRAZIL LAUNCHES SUBMARINE
On march 9th, the Brazilian Navy will launch the new submarine “Tikuna”, built at the Arsenal da Marinha (Navy Arsenal). It’s based on the previous Type 209, with local modifications in the project.
The Arsenal had already built three Type 209 submarines, and this is the first one of a what is considered new class os submarines, the “Tikuna” class.

BRASIL LANÇA SUBMARINO
No próximo dia 9, a Marinha do Brasil lança ao mar o submarino “Tikuna”. A cerimônia de batismo e lançamento será realizada, às 10h30, no Arsenal de Marinha do Rio de Janeiro (AMRJ).
Com, aproximadamente, 61m de comprimento e seis de largura, o “Tikuna” é o quarto submarino construído no Brasil e pode operar a profundidades maiores que 200m. Seu projeto é uma adaptação do projeto alemão IKL-209 e traz diversas inovações tecnológicas concebidas por engenheiros brasileiros, especialmente na geração de energia, no sistema de direção de tiro e nos sensores.
O Brasil é o único país do Hemisfério Sul capacitado na construção de submarinos. Essa tecnologia foi adquirida nos últimos 26 anos, por meio do programa desenvolvido pela Marinha para a obtenção, manutenção e construção de seus submarinos no país. No mundo, apenas quinze nações detêm essa tecnologia.
A utilização de mão-de-obra nacional na construção, além de aperfeiçoar o “know-how” adquirido e incentivar as empresas ligadas à indústria naval brasileira, é de grande importância por representar a manutenção e a criação de empregos nesse segmento. No caso do “Tikuna”, a iniciativa gerou 2.100 empregos indiretos.
O evento contará com as presenças do Presidente da República, do Ministro da Defesa e do Comandante da Marinha.

Thanks for that I know of the Naval Tech site, I’m a subscriber there but they still don’t mention the Improved class.
As for MdB getting Nukes, I don’t see that happening for a while yet, mostly due to the cost of the development. No country that has nukes are going to either sell one to them nor will they help Brazil build one.
Hey singing boy, help a buddy out and tell me what sub this Brazilian beauty is comparable to so I can get a gist of it’s capabilities :confused:

Although the below link is to the Tupi Class submarine,the Tikuna class is refered to as the “Improved Tupi”.

Y don Brazil look towards a deal for the Klio 636 and its license production ?? …. By that Brazil will get a good sub and its tech which wont be the same case with other submarine manufacturers.
