New Bristol Fighter static replica unveiled

I haven’t seen this myself yet, although I have seen a small photo (on BAC 100 facebook wall). The replica Bristol Fighter being built by Rolls-Royce, Airbus and GKN was unveiled during the R-R open day at Filton on Saturday 3rd July. It should be doing the rounds at events in Bristol during the summer, as part of the 100 years of Aviation in Bristol celebrations. Next weekend it should be next to Bristol Cathedral as part of the BAC 100 service there, depending on weather. I believe it is going to the Bristol Aero Collection at Kemble when the celebrations have finished.

I have heard it is a very good representation, and contains some original parts, such as the prop.

Always happy to report a new Bristol aircraft, even if it is a static replica!

I like the bit at 1.20 where the poor sod in the background looses his footing on the ladder. That could have been nasty.

It’s a static build.

The “engine” fitted to it is clearly only a minimal representation – unless, of course, there were more details or an actual engine fitted to it later on.

Erm, just watched that video and towards the end the reporter clearly says it won’t fly.

I believe that this could be considered a sub-editor’s error. The reporter has done her research, it’s not her fault those not on the front line c**ked up.

Due credit where it’s due, please.

[Disclosure: I am a journo and also despair at much aviation ‘reporting’]

BBC website fail!

Also, I loved the footage of the Brisfit in the clip…! :diablo:

However, cack-handed journalism aside, the Bristol Fighter looks great.

Why are the BBC obsessed with making things fly? They say this one will, they said that the Le Bourget Concorde will fly a few weeks back… I guess if its not for flight then its not newsworthy, so they change the story to fit. Next they will report a flypast of the Brisfit and the French Concorde in formation…

I’ve been emailed some larger photos (which I won’t publish, as they’re not mine) and it is a fine looking reproduction. 11 Squadron markings, serial A-7288, coded 7.
