The 2-seat “Irish” Spitfire was flying at Duxford today wearing the markings of “H-98” of the Dutch Air Force. Apparently these are permanent, i.e. not of the wash-off variety. (And before you ask the battery went flat in my camera and I didn’t have a spare, so no photographs)..

Went there yesterday. Weather was not that good, but I managed to get the shots I wanted. BW Roger
I’m a little bit jealous. Had hoped to make some pics of the Spit while it was flying. What a waste that the rear seat isn’t occupied.

Was there on saturday morning (had to leave too early). Not much flying, but good weather and a lovely atmosphere.

I don’t know that yet, but it could be possible that it will make a flight on Saturday..

Will it be flying Saturday, or remain in the static? BW Roger

Flight to Gilze-Rijen and Lelystad cancelled
Hi everyone,
just to let those of you that were planning to go to Gilze-Rijen or Lelystad to see the spit know that those flights are cancelled.
It will stay at Antwerp the entire day and return to Duxford sunday afternoon.

re
I cant imagiane there are many owners who would repaint their aircraft (at great expense) simply because somebody in the crowd didnt like the colours.
However, as somebody who will one day own a warbird (one way or another) I will make sure it is in an eye catching and authentic scheme. This is to ensure airshow bookings. I cant see the logic in painting an a/c in the same colours everyone else has.

😀 Camouflage, also known as cryptic coloration, is the method which allows an otherwise visible organism or object to remain indiscernible from the surrounding environment. 😀
unless it wants to hide inside a thinfoil factory
Dutch logik what can I say.

Where do you stand on Team Guinot, Albert? Surely them there Stearmans never wore those colours in service life? :diablo:
There is also a distinction. They are in ‘their service life’ in that’s how they earn their keep; unlike, say, very expensive fighters that don’t.
Stearmen were designed to be trainers; but that doesn’t mean their wing-walking careers or cropdusting ones are less historic or important.
It could be they just prefer her to look at little more warlike ala PV202.
Without trainers…
It’s an interesting to speculate how different W.W.II fighter attrition rates might have been if there had been a conversion-trainer. Specifically, to take just two types, hundreds, maybe thousands of young men were killed when they were first overwhelmed by their Spitfire or 109. The lack of type-conversion was unarguably a poor shortcut for both the Axis and Allied forces.
Liked the IAC Scheme, like the Dutch scheme – win win.
Cheers

It would be nice to see this Spit on the “Open Dagen” of the Royal Netherlands Airforce (june 15 and 16).

Karel Bos “a Dutch citizen living in Belgium”
Don’t we all make mistakes?? 😉
No, in fact I really love Belgians: they know how to cook and how to brew beer..
Not to mention how to organise spottersdays at KB.

Lowland owner
Karel Bos, the man behind Historic Flying is a Dutch citizen living in Belgium.
I was so pleased to see an aircraft in her original c/s scheme, but the owner is perfectly allowed to have her sprayed in any fancy c/s.
Regards.
