The excellent ‘Fly Vintage’ site reports that Historic Flying Limiteds Spitfire MKXVI has been repainted into D-Day markings carrying Squadron Codes HF-L

I don’t think it is the cruise movie already. At this moviepage, the project is annaunced, but not in production.

And they speek about a hurricane squadron. Not spitfires. I know hollywood doesn’t represent the top in being correct with the history, but I do hope they know the difference between a Hurricane and a Spitfire.

Let’s not forget that in Pearl Harbor, the original idea for the RAF/Eagle Squadron sequences was to use Spitfire XIV NH904…..!! 😉

I just had a thought that perhaps TD248 would be joining TE184 for the same film work (which was reported recently in, I think, Flypast) but then they’re two different variants of Spit….
If it has anything to do with Hollywood/T Cruise then the truth does’nt matter anyway,to them if it has 2 wings it can be a Spitfire.

Horrible – just horrible – as no low back spit operated on D-day, I really cant see the point – must be a movie coming up.
I think this is the point. I found this on airliners.net where the info tells us that it is a temporary sheme for a movie. But wich one could it be? Its a bit early for the new movie in which Tom Cruise has a role. 😉

And you wonder why the people who work on these aeroplanes rarely appear in print on these pages..??
You haven’t got a clue, have you……?

I think it’s an improvement. I don’t go a lot on the red nose though. Never did like comic relief. I like that scheme overall.
Spits have guns, and greens and browns or greys.

HF-L was a real code – pity it appeared on Typhoons.
Very tacky….
Bruce
HF-L was indeed carried on a Typhoon Serial No JR128

all you guys bitching about the colours well be thankfull that the planes survived, all they are doing is paying tribute to the men who lost their lives during one of the most daring campaigns of world war2. so the code is wrong! tough! live with it!
😡 Well another thread ruined!
teal’c i understand your point but why does it have to be put across in such an aggresive manor?
People just passing an opinion on a colour scheme, i don’t think anyone here needs reminding about the ‘significance’ of this or any other aircraft…thats why we are intrested and passionate. I see this thread as heathy discussion and very educational.
I don’t want to open a ‘moral’ debate its just that posts like yours really hack me off! 😡

Karel Bos is Belgian, isn’t he? I always thought TD248 was owned by him?
By: Stieglitz - 22nd May 2004 at 23:38
I looked at G-info and there I saw that the Spitfire is owned by a Belgium company: SILVER VICTORY BVBA. Is that company a part from Historic Flying Ltd?

Thanks to Mark 12, I rushed myself to Antwerp for the Stampe fly-inn. I had luck because TD248 flew in and made a display.
Below you can see some photo’s of it after the landing this afternoon:
Other photo’s of the event may folow later.

Not too keen on it 🙁
And it was a Spitfire F21….
By: airshowsorguk - 22nd May 2004 at 15:09
Don’t forget that with the anniversary and all the events marking it, a lot of organisers will want their Spitfire’s with these markings. In turn this generate money to keep this and other flying, plus money for the restoration of others. The racing colours are of course completely false for this spitfire or RN201 as they are from a Spitfire F23/24.

And there was i hoping they were going to clip the wings of the Mk18 and repaint it in the same silver & red to make a nice aerobatic trio.

Probably not – it looks messy. The nearest representation of the ‘authentic look’ can be found on the static P-47 in the AAM at Duxford.
