ZS-NTE was painted last week in Shannon to represent EI-ACD and appeared at the Bray airshow this weekend, a really great job was done on the aircraft and it has been good to see a Dak around again. I understand that it is off to Germany next week.

That is certainly a detailed history of this aircraft Jack, very interesting, you are a mine of information. Hopefully it will be around Europe for some time to come.

Finally, what does the CAA refer to them as on official paperwork and pilot type ratings?
DC3

Thanks.
BTW: Being they were C-47s before being given to the UK, I assume the Data Plates read C-47, correct?
Is there another, UK-installed tag showing any RAF mods to UK-specific spec ?
Finally, what does the CAA refer to them as on official paperwork and pilot type ratings?

Its history is summarised here:

So, a C-47A, then Dakota III.
By: Argonaut - 25th July 2017 at 13:56
As far as I know it is ex RAF, ex SAAF then to civilian use.
By: J Boyle - 25th July 2017 at 13:49
Is it a Dakota (ex-lend lease RAF), a C-47 (other ex military) or DC-3 (civil build or conversion)?

Yes AirportsEd it is fitted with seats (from a 747 I believe) it did a publicity flight with press and VIPs on Friday, it will remain based in Germany, but I think will be appearing at various airshows and events. It will be staying on the South African register as far as I know.

Based at Zweibrucken.

This DC-3 has been in Germany for at least a couple of years and flew there from South Africa. It has been reported as due to return to Germany after its air show appearances in Ireland.

Lovely Dakota in that Aer Lingus livery. Will it get a true Irish registration eventually? Would be nice.

Very nice…
Is she kitted out for passenger flights?
By: Sopwith - 24th July 2017 at 09:40
She looks really good in that livery, a very pleasing colour scheme.
