Came past Duxford yesterday from the M25 and noticed that a Spitfire is now resident on the gate. The Hurricane had been missing for a while and I wondered why it was moved.
Can anyone give an indication if this Spitfire is a restoration or composite?
Never got a chance to see the markings as it is facing directly onto the road.
What happened to the Hurricane, has this a dry warm home in the hanger?
Thanks.
Brian.

Not wholly correct, there’s quite a bit of GRP on it.
Is there then any history in this Hurricane or is the airframe basically a replica?

Please excuse my ignorance, but is this the “plastic” hurricane mentioned ?
That one isn’t plastic.

Oh ok ? Sorry but I am completely out of my depth here ! I know more about neuclear physics than I do about hurricanes ?????? Keith !

Keith, sorry I had forgot about the other plastic Hurricane in the BoB display.
When I said it was in was in the restoration hangar I should have said that it was the one that had been painted as ‘LE-X. It had several pieces (such as the prop) removed and appeared to be being made ready for a repaint.

[QUOTE=Mark V;1201869]I would suggest its a fibre-glass replica (alhough it did need a bit of ‘restoration’ work recently)!
It is a GB replicas Fibreglass replica, but is not the original inverted model which was disposed of after its untimely and somewhat careless demise. After a good slagging off of the first one by forumites as to the inaccuracies of its scheme – (which was the choice of the IWM and not that of the highly respected engineers that applied it under contract) hopefully someone might be complimentary to ARC for the excellent and accurate scheme they have applied – albeit with the IWM chosen code letters.

The real issue is: Was the mannequin modelled on Charley Brown?….. Sorry CB….:D

I think the ‘plastic’ Hurricane was in the restoration hangar just before Christmas.

“Base over apex” is what happened to that one 😉

When I was there a month ago there was a “plastic” spitfire outside between the hangers coded DU__X ? may be this one ? Keith.
Yes it is that one, although it’s been tied down a little better this time.

A nice example of a GRP Hurricane used to sit outside the visitor entrance, when said entrance was into Hangar 1, the Superhangar, in pre-Airspace days.
What was the replica that is/was by the car park gate?

Not sure about that but it was also a fibre-glass re-creation of a Hurricane.

I think both the Spitfire and Hurricane are both plastic replicas.
