New F1 Engines

As from 2014, the now used normaly aspirated 2.4 Litre V8 will be replaced with a new Hi Tech 1.6 V6 Turbos.

Back to the good old days, when “Bang goes a turbo”.

Should be worth watching for a change.:D

John. Further to my last, what, in GB Pounds would the entry charge be to get in to see the Indi 500?.

Tickets are very reasonable, starting at less than $50 so about 30 pounds.
It’s very much an “average guy” event. Parking is reasonable as is food/drink (IIRC, you can bring your own).
Of course you can pay much more, the place has something like 250,000 seats.

F1 is a different sport aimed at a different croud. A friend has a home on the Nice waterfront, he goes to the F1 race at Monaco (about 10 kilometers up the road) and reports ticket prices are 500 Euros. While I’ve visted him, I’ve never gone to the race..in part because of that and after having gone to an F1 street course race, you don’t see that much. But everytime I visit we do the course in his car and walk a good bit of it as well. it’s a special place, rather like Indy.

Since you asked about Indy, here’s a shot I (actually my passenger, my car is RHD) took of the front stretch from my roadster. I was there two weeks before this year’s race for a celebration of the race’s centenary. The new timing “Pagoda” is in the background.

John. Max Mosely,(Fortunately now gone) and that little dwarf Ecclestone, Unfortunately STILL with us is the one to blame. Ecclestone has gone against just about all the drivers have advised him on, As regards the rules and regs, , it’s a bit complicated to explain here, but Ecclestone wanted to change the rules so much for 2012 that Ferrari threatened to pull out, and he quickly did a “U” turn.

In some ways F1, has become the sport of the richest teams, Ferrari, McLaren etc.
I visited Williams many times, and once when down at Silverstone, I was with Ann Bradshaw Frank Williams P.A.
Looking at one of the Williams cars, I saw the cars with the sponsers logos stickers on them. Looking at the wing mirrors was a well known Companies stickers, Ann stated each Ad on each mirror, cost Β£3.000.000. EACH side, Ever tried to read an Ad on a F1 car doing 200mph ?.on the wing mirror.
I was once told all the profits from the sales of Fiats, goes into the Ferrari F1 teams budget.

In case it has escaped everybody’s notice diesel powered cars have dominated Le Mans since 2005.
Maybe there is a lesson to be learned there?
Moggy

That people want to smell like a U-Boat captain?:D

Seriously, there is no reason why diesels shuldn’t do well, they were raced in the Indianapolis “500” years ago.

F1 seemingly changes its formula every year. I do wish they’d make up their minds, it would save the teams millions of euros and lots of wasted resources.

Rallying?

I don’t think you can even begin to compare Rallying, ie, through woods, roads without side furniture to hit when they roll off, No Moggs the once named DAKAR rally, now the SILK ROAD rally is nothing like the fat men etc you mention. every year, there is guaranteed one or two unfortunate competitors will be killed.
Totaly different kettle of fish.

Jim, you are being very good at quote snipping now, but do be aware the quote has to finish with [/quote] or it doesn’t look at all tidy. M

Just to clarify, I’m not really a petrol head, I just have a quick car and earned the money for it working in/for the motor industry. So more a professional interest rather than a hobby.

Yep. and mainly the same team.
Moggy, as you appear to be a bit of a petrol head, as I know you just love Clarkson and his show, did you know that V/W are NOT defending their Crown in the Silk Rally this next year?.

Can’t wait for them to bring in non turbo diesels…….

They have, it’s called “Scalectrix”, no, a diesel without a turbo would be like watching paint dry.Now a diesel with twin turbos, like the Veyron, now that would be interesting to see one on an oval track against an F1 car, yes, I know the Veyron is a petrol. B.T.W.

Now if only they did away with all the computers and radios, actual driving skill might once more become the dominant aspect of F1 racing.

it’s all controlled by a couple of teenagers on a xbox in South Korea
