New fully restored Avenger for Australia

Whilst I was aware of a third and probably more TBM Avenger coming to Australia , I wasn’t aware which one it was and had not paid enough attention to it – The machine in question is now known to be TBM3S BuNo 53337 link to warbirdsresources page is http://www.warbirdregistry.org/avengerregistry/avenger-53337.html
Pic per their site is attached.

The machine in question is the famous and immaculate “Crash Williams” machine from Seattle Wa and is going to be another jewel in the Australian Warbird Crown. Being fully restored and airworthy it should come on the scene straight away. Oscar Duck AKA Randal McFarlane owns the TBM3 E also airworthy in Queensland and there is a third Ex Firebomber undergoing full restoration also in Queensland. Rummor has it that two more TBMs are also on their way – we are seriously going to run out of hanger space soon as well as being able to restage some WW11 air battles in the Pacfic soon.

Thanks go here to Dave Prossors article in Australian Aviation today for reminding me of all of this.

Regards
John Parker.

A theme ride based on the Bermuda Triangle, so the theory is that if you go into this place, chances are you’ll never come out…?? hmmm, what exactly are you two doing inside that mountain?

Hi Dave

I will let them know you are displeased and ask for a full written apology – I am sure they will close the ride down imediately – Or better yet you can do it yourself on your Excellent Aussie adventure week.

Thanks for the explanation Mark.

So I was right about the Close Encounters connection (directors cut version that is).

However, a theme park ride based on real tragic air accidents (and I’m guessing sea disasters too) does not sit too well with me, despite the interest in supposed spooky goings on, I’m afraid.

Dave & All,

Yes it was a fortunate sitatuation to add some further stir to OD and Setter with, the Avengers are @1/2 scale size poor facsimiles of the real thing and are intended to represent the 5 lost in the Bermuda Triangle, they are part of the Bermuda ride where eventually the caven of Aliens are encoutered deep inside the “volcano”.

They are located at Seaworld on the Gold Coast in Qld.

Interestingly there appears to be at least 1 real aircraft tailplane in the Avenger photo’s (see attached) most likely a T6 or if locally sourced (I hate the thought ) Wirraway, Ceres or dare I say it Boomerang??

I guess that will be sufficient motivation for someone to take a few rides through, and try and guess?? or identify it??

Setter,

I’m sorry I had to resort to this to get you and OD to spill the beans, but it was a badly kept secret in anycase, and the world had a public interest right to know what you were doing.

(The photos and video are now being sort by Murdoch, Packer and O’Reilly in a 3 way auction!!, KP couldnt keep up in the bidding!!)

no-one is falling for that story of the Cosford Liberator going to Hendon either , by the way when does it go to the docks for shippment to Australia, or is it intended to strap it to the top of one top of the Concorde delivery flights as per Shuttle/B747 transporting?? 😀

Bugger

Sussed out hey!!

Well OD is away at present – a cover has him flying around looking at his new A26 but I suppose we better come clean.

Oscar and I thought we needed some more modern high performance aircraft so he is as we speak in various parts of the world buying up a squadron of discarded Supersonic Transports – AKA Concordes – we have devised a devilish plot to convert the Concordes to high speed bombers. In order to do this we have aquired the services of Jock “Chainsaw” McNab from near East Fortune – apparently he is a dab hand with a Friction cutter and has had a lot of practice on a Concored there in recent times as well as a group of elderly ladies from the East Fortune crochet and Spot welding club who will be given the task of tidying up Jocks work.

Jock will be using his skills to whack a “hole” under the Concordes for the ordinance to go in – we don’t actually have any ordinance yet but we will be taking up a collection at the raffle night at the Gold Coast RSL on friday night if anybody would like to come along . You could win a meat tray and fund a bomb or sidewinder for a good cause – John Howard has agreed that our not for profit organisation will be subject to a tax free holiday so all of your dosh goes to the project rather than funding the further destruction of the RAAF through Tax.

OD will be tasked with the job of flying the machines home – he went strangely pale when he saw the East Fortune and Brooklands machines – something about “Patchwork quilts” or “bloody meccano sets”. True trooper that he is he will come through in the end and bring the birds home. Home yes well there is a bit of an issue there. Strangely there is after much discussion to be a new Formula 1 track constructed at Archerfield – We had a long chat with that Mr Mosely and that nice Mr Eccesltone and there will be the new Aus F1 track in place before the end of the year. It will mean demolishing a couple of suburbs but hey thats life. Funnily enough the new track will feature a 12,000 ft main straight with a hardened underground pit area big enough to house Michael Schumachers ego!! (love dealing with those F1 guys we said we were going to start up the F111 if they didn’t help and they thought it was a rival series)

More of this plan at a later time I need to take my medication now

I’m not sure if thats Setter with his sunglasses and T shirt off with his back to the camera, but the conversation overheard was
“John!! today Queensland – tommorrow the world”

to which the other replied

“Randy just keep working we have a Beaufighter and Liberator on their way soon so we have to shift all your TBM’s off to make room!”

Its time you guys came clean with what you are doing!!

Setter and OD’s staff working in the large cavern area of the tunnel systems obviously preparing for delivery of F-111 components, the staff has local and interstate employees due to the size of the operation, in these shots the local Queenslanders have their backs to he camera to hide their identities

so there you go OD !! the gig is up!!

ok Setter and OD,

I gave the Sunshine State Air Force enough time to come clean, you left me no option but to disclose where these Avengers are hidden.

I attended a very large swimming hole in the Gold Coast and noticed this suspicious looking hill with an obviously fake volcano on the top, I immediately realised I was looking at the handywork of AVM Setter!!

I hired a small boat and my team and I entered the labyrinth of tunnels via a stream, and quickly found the cache of Avengers hidden in the tunnels,

Later as we entered the larger caven I was greeted by some of your employees (they looked like typical Queenslanders) who were obviously unpacking more aircraft.

We quickly left the tunnel system with these photos of our investigation and the details of the RAAF F-111/TBM trade that has been under planning for some timeh!!

Its time you came clean on your activities in this underground facility! (and let your staff get some sunshine for their complexion!)

as threatened earlier I will now follow this disclosure with photos to prove it!!!

So how did you guys break the code>>>enigma???

I found your cache of Avengers hidden in under a tunnel deep inside a mountain in Queensland in October 2004.

I lead a team to explore this hidden maze of tunnels and even encountered your henchmen working in a huge caven in the centre of the tunnel complex!!

If you guy’s dont immediately come clean I post the rest of the photographic evidence I have here for the world to see!!

John, four ex RNZAF Avengers remain in NZ today

NZ2504, NZ2505, NZ2527 & NZ2539

There is talk of at least two groups wanting to purchase Avengers for the Warbirds scene too but I don’t know whether this will happen.

As far as I am aware, only one group – a certain organisation, that recently has had their toys taken away by Auntie Helen, has siezed on Oscar Duck’s idea and are attempting to obtain clandestine funds to import some TBF/TBM’s in Godzone.

Rumour also has it that the 4 existing examples will be impressed as INST Airframes. 😉

There is NO (traceable) paperwork that 1 x TBF = 1 x A-4 or 339C

Hi Dave

Well as you know there has never been a better time to buy one as there are lots for sale at very reasonable prices. Oscar Duck will tell you they are expensive to operate but reliable and roomy and in NZ where the distances are less than here the costs of getting from one place to another are not as great so it becomes quite viable for you Kiwis to get one I would have thought. With 3 and potentially 5 in Queensland there has been quite a population explosion here.

It is curious to me that after Oscars machine left the UK all those years ago another hasn’t come on the UK scene as they are great airshow performers and the wings folding/unfolding ceats interest.

Regards
John P
