New laser incident at Edinburgh Airport
23.10.08
A police investigation has been launched after pilots landing two planes in Edinburgh Airport were dazzled by a green laser. Both planes landed safely. These latest incidents follows a similar incident last month.
The captain of a cargo plane from Aberdeen was targeted by the beam while he was landing, which caused the plane to drop 400ft on Tuesday. Half an hour later the laser was aimed at an easyjet Airbus landing at 22:00 from Stansted. It is the sixth incident in recent months.
A Police spokesman said: ‘Police are investigating an incident that happened at about 22:00 on Tuesday night, where a laser light was shone at two aircraft as they approached Edinburgh Airport. The light, which was thought to have emanated from the Leith area of Edinburgh, dazzled the pilot of one of the aircraft, which was a cargo plane.’
When will the idiots that do this kinda thing actually get the message into their thick skulls that what they are doing is not only highly dangerous and most certainly illegal, but its putting the lives of potentially hundreds of people at risk, both in the air and on the ground…

You know something….I live in Leith and the flightpath does take aircraft over my house but I would reckon they must be at least 2000 feet up…how the hell do you shine a laser at an aircraft at 2000 feet whilst it is doing somewhere in the region of 150-200 miles per hour….
If the aircraft were landing there is no way the beams came from the Leith area…..by the time the aircraft are lined up for landing they are 6 miles away from Leith and facing the opposite direction..just hope the cop who handed out this info isnt in traffic:D.
And no Im not making fun of this incident..it just hasnt been reported properly.

These brainless fools will never learn. If the present ones are stopped then there will always be more idots who will take over and do it again. Alot of the youth n teenage gangs out there don’t have any regard for life at all. They don’t care about how it will effect other people. Not so long ago near me, a group of teenage boys was running from the police after a disturbance, and they ran right across the M60. One boy was hit 3 times by 3 cars at high speed. His “mates” didn’t seem to bother. What about the family of this boy, his other friends. What about the emergency workers who had to pick peices of this boy up off the carraigeway.
Total disregard for life. This was just one boy. Multiply that by the avarage sized passenger plane and that is a monster number of people unneccessarelly put through hell all because some emptyheaded kids thought it would be fun to shine a laserpen at an aircraft.

I read about this story in the local press on Friday. This type of incident is becoming far too common in Britain and it is nearly always teenagers playing around. I just hope it stops before there is a serious accident due to this very stupid prank. Their little “game” will not be so funny when they are arrested by police for causing the death of potentially over 100 people. This week’s incident is not the first time it has happened at Edinburgh and I am not sure it will be the last.
