[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-07-02 AT 03:45 PM (GMT)]As of 18th July British European will now be known as Flybe in their 3rd name change in recent years. The modern, vibrant and different look, heralds the arrival of a new generation of airline which offers a new deal for passengers.
The airline believes the time is right to recognize this process of change, to respond to this maturing sector of the market and to create a new generation of airline, bringing together the traditional service values of 21 years of operation by British European and combine these with the best qualities of the low costs airlines to create a new generation of airline – to offer a new deal for air travellers.
The ‘new deal’ reinforces the airlines commitment to low fares but also means so much more for passengers who choose Flybe. The airline will offer a range of products on the ground and in the air, with a range of prices to suit the needs of all customers. It will offer the benefits of new technology through the internet whilst still working closely with the travel trade who offer a service to millions of air travellers – albeit a changing role. Flybe. will underscore all of these intitiatives with a newly revised Customer Charter ensuring the traditional values of customer service is retained.
In the ‘new deal’, Flybe. pledges the following:-
New Deal for Customers:
The introduction of heavily discounted one way tickets, from as low as £29, giving the passenger a flexible deal, whatever ticket they buy, and at the same time overcoming any minimum stay restrictions.
All tickets will be changeable up to two hours before departure at a cost of £25. All tickets will be non refundable. Its two premium fares Business and Premium Economy, will remain fully refundable and fully changeable at any time. (1st August 2002)
The abolition of overbooking. Flybe. will be the first traditional airline to abolish this unpopular industry practice. It plans to implement it with effect from its winter timetable in October.
Late Deal Fares. By abolishing overbooking and introducing the two hour change rule, Flybe. anticipates having late deal seats to sell and is therefore launching ‘Flybe50.’ single fares. These seats will be offered for sale through Reservations and at airport ticket desks at a set rate of £50 one way from 12 hours before departure. (1st August 2002)
A permanent saving of up to £10 can be made on air fares (£5 one way) for all flights booked on the flybe.com website. (1st August 2002)
Business Class will still be offered on board on its London Gatwick routes. On all routes Business Class lounges* will be offered to Premium Economy passengers thereby offering a benefit to those whose corporate travel policies prohibit the use of Business Class. An added benefit is that the Premium Economy passenger avoids the additional £5 per passenger per sector Business Travel Tax levied by The Government. *where available
Frequent Flyer Programme – Passport to Freedom will continue to be offered. A scheme which has proved to be the most generous in the market.
The policy of charging for alcoholic drinks in the Economy Cabin will be extended to all beverages and food. (1st October 2002)
A new Customer Charter will be introduced and clearly displayed on flybe’s website and at airports. This will offer clarity of Be’s service standards and also of the levels of compensation that they offer when customers are let down.

RE: New Look For BE
I’m not sure about swapping aircraft in GCI,sorry I can’t be of much help with that. The inter island flights are operated only by Aurigny, however,BE do fly inter island on flights like yours,JER-GCI-EXT and JER-GCI-BHX and in the winter JER-GCI-LGW.There is no problem with these flights because the passengers are staying on the aircraft to go to other destinations in the UK so this is not going in to competition with Aurigny.Any passenger wanting to fly GCI-JER or JER-GCI have to go stand by due to competition laws, which is a big thing over here, only on a few routes are airlines allowed to compete.

RE: New Look For BE
Thanks for the quick reply.
I think the JER-EXT is at around 15.30.
The plane that takes us to and from EXT will be G-JEDD (a Dash 8-300) because thats the only BE aicraft that ever flys into EXT (unless for maintenece etc).
It’s just the flight from Jersey-Guernsey, I would expect that to be a -200 series. I suppose it takes about 10 minutes. I always thought that Aurigny was the only airline that did Inter-Island flights but BE must do a few aswell.

RE: New Look For BE
I’m not entirely sure about this one.I know that you are probably are on a Dash 8-200 but I can’t be sure about the aircraft change. Are you on the Saturday 08.20 departure from Jersey to Exeter?

RE: New Look For BE
Thanks alot Saab. The flight out is direct, but the return
flight has a stop & an aircraft change at Guernsey, making it 40 mins longer. So is there an aircaft that does inter-island flights which I’ll be going on first? If there is I guess it’s a Dash 8-200.

RE: New Look For BE
I think i tend to agree, the colour scheme is good, but i think mabe they should stick at being a regional carrrier, and drop the low-cost idea. Keep thinking of Debonair, 146s ,business class (i think). they could not compete.

RE: New Look For BE
Thanks for that. Genrally, what kind of aircraft and airlines are there?

RE: New Look For BE
You would think that, because BE are based in Exeter they have loads of their aircraft coming in all the time, but at Exeter only one Dash 8-300 (G-JEDD) ever comes. It goes out to Jersey/Guernsey comes back, goes to Dublin, comes back, goes somewhere elese, clomes back and so on (Well, something like that anyway). I should be going on that aircraft for my flight from Exeter to Jersey on the 28th.

RE: New Look For BE
I can’t help but think that this is not a good idea for British European. They are a good airline, though with them branding themselves as a low cost carrier I think that maybe they have made a bad decision.
British European are a regional airline who operate regional aircraft (Dash 8,BAe 146 and CRJ)which I doubt with fuel, maintenance, ect,it is not going to be cheap to run those aircraft compared to the likes of the 737.I remember BE were in the process of retiring their CRJs a while back, until their RJX order fell through, because they said they were to expensive to fly. With them going low cost it is going to seem a lot of money to operate these aircraft.
The regional airports BE fly in to have very expensive fees,I think LCY is one of highest in Europe.Other low cost operators keep away from thse type of airports and operate from places were there are low landing fees. (Ryanair definitely do this) So this another that going low cost could proove expensive for BE.
Low cost operators have an average load factor of 80% yet the regional carriers have only around 50% which again is a problem facing BE.Though this could change for BE with low prices,BE will always be a regional carrier and so the rule that the low cost operators seem to use (the more seats filled the lower the prices) may seem hard for BE to follow.
Not to mention that they are still offering a buisness class is another reason why low cost is not so good for them.I think they should of just kept with what they were doing, offering from time to time special offers and keeping themselves as one of Europes fastest growing regional airlines.

I prefer the scheme on Kabir’s pic. How many millions will the latest change have cost?

RE: New Look For BE
Yeh the new C/s is Ok…nothin special to be honest, the old one was good. They still have British European on the fueselage so the name change is a bit pointless…i spose its just an add for the web site.
I didn’t see BE as a low cost airline. that wasn’t the image put across to me but, the new c/s and special deals suggest otherwise.
They get an ‘OK’ from me.

Ben

RE: New Look For BE
I agree with you A330Crazy,the aircraft do look a lot brighter as well as more modern. When the aircraft were put in the old BE c/s they looked ugly as well as dirty which was sad because their BAe 146 are great aircraft. Now they look like they have been brought back to life with the new colours.
