For me, finding ‘new’ images like this one (well, new to me!) is a bit like Christmas!
The story of the Me 109 in question is well recorded, but this photo was taken at Unilever Sports Ground, Watford, in September 1940, when the aircraft went on show for the local Spitfire Fund.
Maybe somebody will know the location?
Image in need of a bit of TLC/photoshopping, but I was delighted to obtain it all the same.

Post 6, rwout, I think you get the chocolates, the 2 victory bars on the top of the rudder are also on the port side, engine damage looks identical.
Good find ANDY.
Kind Regards Mike

I wiped the stain off.
I have a couple of HeIII and Do17 flopped, I’ll have to dig them out

To me it looks like Heinz Schnabel 1/JG3.

Go on then…..I know you’re dying for someone to ask! 😀

I’m guessing that was done for the photographer, to make it look ‘better’.

Great photo Andy. It looks like the engine has detached an spun around facing the nose of which is resting on the right wing, strange it looks like the top engine cowling is in place.

Very interesting photo Andy.
I am guessing the sports ground in Watford is not the Unilever one of when this photo was taken. ( I just had a google map minute)
It looks like a footpath behind and a gentleman looking over through the fence.
I wonder if straight after this photo was taken they dug a big hole and buried it, just a thought.
