P/O John Bland flew from RAF Gravesend and is buried in Gravesend Cemetery.
Shoreham Museum (in Kent) has done a lot in marking the sites of crashes in the area.

Don’t want to thread drift too much but i can thoroughly recommend the Shoreham Aircraft Museum (yes Kent) for a visit. Quite superb array of dig artifacts and parts from allied and axis aircraft crash sites!

The site in question was excavated very many years ago by Dave Smith from Canterbury. Not much turned up, as I recall…although I was on the “dig”.

Hello & wecome Martin , lets hope you get some answers. There are a lot of very informed people on here ( Not Me )

Spent years in Motor trade myself ( among other things ) But my practical knowledge waned with the arrival of computer controlled fuel injection & all the related gizmo’s!!

Thanks for the words of wisdom

Shhhhhhhhhhhh, don’t let people know we are helpful . . .

– the arguments are compelling. Especially Moggie’s.

I meant to work out something like that but it meant taking my shoes off.

As to what I want to do after getting the little brown book? That depends on finances but I guess we’d mainly do “going to different places”… Dunno is the broad answer!!

Group flying is one way. Club flying can get very expensive. I once took a Cub to France and it cost about £900 for a weekend!

Still no bids for my kidney? I’m sure that you could save it for a rainy day.. Hmm Kidney futures. Now there’s a thought.

I don’t think yours has much of a future!

I’ll give you ten bob for a December kidney, but I want it fried with onions and a side salad with sun-dried tomatoes, rocket and balsamic vinegar.

and a nice little Chianti Tst tst tst tst . . . .

My Gixer was a whore! Still a reliable whore, didn’t need a ‘how do I get home when this Italian lady packs up’ contingency when I left the house.

Still better to be up there than down here though – one day I am sure I will have two wheels again but not at the expense of wings

I’ll give you ten bob to leave the kidney out. The salad sounds lovely though.

To all you bikers – one word: Ixion. You sound like you’ll fit right in there. If I sell the GSXR6 I’ve still got Frances’ (SWMBO) R6 🙂 So a plan not entirely without merit…

Thanks for the words of wisdom – the arguments are compelling. Especially Moggie’s. As to what I want to do after getting the little brown book? That depends on finances but I guess we’d mainly do “going to different places” (my parents are over in Norfolk, and I’m in the Midlands so popping over for lunch probably isn’t an unresonable assumption?), get some more bits on the licence (Night etc) and see about Joining a group. Dunno is the broad answer!!

What we really need is some good, forceful moderation here.

Then we could get rid of all the flying stuff :p

Moggy

Moderation Moggy? Wasn’t there meant to be some kind of poll about that soon?

Welcome John. I’m just a visitor here. I’m more regular on the historic forum, as befits my age and gradual mental decay….. Mind you I’m pretty regular due to the lactulose too 😉

Enjoy.

I’m attracted to the idea because: a) it’s cheap and b) it’s paid for up front.

Consider that there is not a school in the UK who wouldn’t bite your hand off to accept payment up front if you were to offer it. If you do (UK or US) only pay by credit card, that way you have somebody to give you your money back if the school folds. And they do. Frequently.

Cheap?

A US package is generally around three thousand quid? Takes three weeks. You arrive back in the UK and then fly once per week for the rest of the year at around £100 per hour. That’s 49 hours, £4,900. Plus your US training makes it £7,900 that you have spent on flying in year one.

UK will cost you about £5,000 to get your licence, which you can spread out over that first year. That’s just £5,000 you’ve spent on flying in year one.

Which one is cheap?
