Today I found this video of “Black 2” D-FDME when she belonged to Hans Dittes. Maidenflight as G-10 (converted former Buchon D-FEHD) was at Mannheim-Neuostheim on 23.03.1995. Run up and first flight by Mark Hanna. Original video by Helmut Schmidt, cut and upload by Falcon 109. You might want to have a look at his other videos as well.
Enjoy

Cheers, Darren, I know the 190 sat high but never noticed it on the 109 before, makes sense with the handling, like the tow-in on the main landing gear, always looks like its about to collapse !

The tailwheel leg on the later G-models was extended so as to give the pilot a slightly better view over the nose. Not sure if it was also done to try to correct some of the Gustav’s handling characteristics, though, but quite possibly.

The tail Oleo looks very high, was there a reason?

In a similar vein, here’s a clip of Mark displaying Black 2 in some style at Wanaka in 1996.

Nice. I always liked that paint scheme.
Right Daz. Though the scheme was not strictly correct. If you look closely at the markings on the fuselage, they are aligned with the upper side of the fuselage, that was wrong. Correctly they should be aligned with the underside. But anyway, I did like it much better than the new one, Yellow 3. It was remarked by some that this kind of scheme would not fit a G-10, but earlier versions. I do not know, but in my opinion it looks much too “streamlined”. But who I am to criticise Messerschmitt Foundation / EADS?

I took this many years ago now at North Weald if you’re interested. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1yT05pmvFc
