Hi
If possible, could someone just recap some recent new routes at MAN please? I went there yesterday, and TBH I’ve never seen Terminal 2 so quiet, and it was at a peak time as well!
I really don’t want LBA to expand, much prefer MAN in every way.
Also, how frequent are SQ’s MAN operations? They use B777’s only, right?

BA operated LAX in 1994-1995 with the 767, loads were excellent, yeilds were not
UA could use SFO as they use ORD with bmi. SFO is a busling UA hub so it could, and should work with a 767, AA could do LAX no problem i’m sure!
Quite right, the BA loads were good, but yields not, which is the typical problem out of MAN. HOWEVER BA also suffered degredation of service on hot days and often had to offload pax and freight on hot summer days because the 767s couldn’t do the non-stop west coats route fully laden when the temperature was too great from the MAN runway. This problem would apply to AA or UA operating 767s to LAX or SFO, but bmi would possibly be ok with A330s which have better performance in this respect. Having to offload freight upsets the forwarders and clients, but offloading passengers is really bad news and always better avoided.

Time MAN did have a few more US routes, ideally to the west coast.
Ok we have New York, Orlando, Chicago, Philadelphia (i think) but wheres the routes like LGW and LHR do to the west coast.

Would a Los Angeles or San Fransisco route ever be possible out of MAN.

That’s quite interesting. I wouldn’t like to see it try to make FL310 level 65nm before MID restriction, although I don’t think they can go above FL290 because of icing? I could be wrong though?

I’m not really familiar with the BAe 146 to be honest, but off the top of my head I think they have a ceiling height of 31,000ft.

I agree to be honest. As I said, It also does the occasional NCE flight and will be doing the odd PSA or two when that starts. Although when it’s operating on these two routes it can cause problems due to the range and the possibility of the a/c being over weight.
I happened to ride the 146 from NCE to MAN Saturday before last actually and it was a fairly full flight, therefore we were only able to cruise at FL280 which didn’t really help us make up any time on the 1hr+ delay which we picked up on the ground in NCE.

You’ve just reminded me of the good old days of Debonair, aircraft and operational problems galore on their BAe 146s worked on a LCC schedule on 2hour+ flights.

Shame that Jet2 have leased a BAe 146, it’s hardly the correct aircraft for their operation, especially on the longer routes.

I’ve now heard the B757 will be occasionally used on flights when more tickets have been sold than will fill a B737. So if you like it’s the same as the BAe 146 operating for the B737 on certain routes.
It just all depends on the loads….

Interesting. Any chance of them doing the Murcia or will that remain a B733?

What Manchester needs is an Australia route, rather than having to change at Singapore. Just a fuel stop route like Quantas do to Heathrow.

We’ve got two more B757s which are due to join the fleet sometime towards the end of this month (AC and AD), so fingers crossed that’s when AA and AD will officially start operating from MAN. So far they’re only rumoured to be operating to ALC and PMI, but I reckon they’ll do a couple more routes than just those two….

Why do people keep spelling Mombasa with two S’s! It’s MOMBASA. The new MyTravel service is routing via London Gatwick.

From what I saw when I was at LGW the other day waiting for my flight, quite a lot of people got on the Jet2 146 to Manchester which is quite good news, so 3 services per weekday is probably just about justified.
By: HON 1R - 23rd April 2006 at 15:15
Ah I see what you mean. I was referring to the summer flights, as that was what you were originally talking about.
Yeah 17-23 April the LS903/904 only operates on a Monday. It’s back to normal tomorrow though…
By: lbaspotter - 23rd April 2006 at 14:39
Not sure where you’ve heard about LGW getting dropped down to two flights a day either. All three services to/from LGW will be operating this summer, apart from at the weekends and the on the odd Monday or two.
Hi HON 1R
I just went and looked in the Jet2.com booking system and it was only showing 2 flights daily for this week and Next.
I,m guessing it might be something to do with the quite Easter period on domestic flights and with it been in between to Bank holidays. Your right in saying it dose in fact go back up to 3 daily from May 2nd 2006.
