New routes for our local airports?

What are your top predictions over the next twelve months or so on the ‘new route’ front for you’r local aiport? whether entirely speculative or with some truth in the rumour. Try to keep it realistic 😉 . For each category:
1. New Domestic route?
2. New European route?
3. New Long-haul route?

For EDI I’d say:

1. Manston(EUJet)
2. Oslo(SAS), Munich(BMI Regional)
3. Doha (Qatar)

Air India used to serve Birmingham, routed (rather bizarrely) via Moscow if I remember rightly.

For BHX it would be great to see an airline like AI fly to the city, it surely must only be a matter of time before they realise that Birmingham has a need for a service to India, PK seem to be doing well from the city as do HY and T5. Would be great to see an AI join them! Would also be nice to see BA/AA return with a flight to the states, but can’t really see that happening.

The Manchester one might work, although the Qantas one, your having a laugh aren’t you!! There’s no way we’ll get that even if we don’t have a daily transatlantic flight!! A Madrid flight would be nice, although easyJet would do that, I can’t see Spanair doing it.

My choices for NCL:
Domestic: Manchester – (Eastern Airways)
European: Madrid – (Spanair, they’d have to make a permanent stay)
Long-haul: Sydney – (Qantas, although we’d have to sort out our runway problem)

Not sure about that last one but the first two are great!

How long will you continue to peddle this nonsense Joe and across how many forums ? And by the way BBC Scotland already has studios in Edinburgh, the centre of the universe as you proclaim it. 😎

Nonsense…? Folk are not entitled to opinions? Back-slapping GLA is allowed but supporting EDI isn’t?

Get a grip… 😡 😡

Why should folk on the east coast of Scotland have to pass
a perfectly capable airport in Edinburgh to travel to GLA
anyway.? When one looks at the situation sensibly it would
appear east Scotland is paying a surface travel premium to actually bankroll an economy to the detriment of their own.

Use it or lose it? Donal Dowds is on record stating that using an airport gives the impression you like it.

Preaching to the converted?

Folk who are fearful of losing EDI through monopolistic
social engineering will use EDI no matter what… :p :p

While it’s certainly true the M8 has been dug up more often than the average potato field, why should the biggest population density have to travel through to embra when there’s a bigger and undoubetdly better airport here, just because it’s not so convenient for Hollyrood so MSPs can’t access their ‘factfinding’ trips to Mallorca so easily?

Anyway, there’s no fear of getting from Central Edinburgh to West Glasgow in an hour, it’s taken me that long to get from Easter Road to Corstorphine/the M8 before, thanks to the excellent traffic management system in embra .

From Liverpool, I would like to see some competition on the Dublin run. Only FR at moment and times are not great. Aberdeen has been served in the past and would be good, also Brussels, maybe with VLM and Prague and Rome and Venice maybe for Easyjet. An LHR link would be good but unlikely.

The roads to and from GLA are in a constant state of being dug up.

There are roadworks all over the place. They finish on set and start another. Sometimes there are several different roadworks overlaping each other.

On company lays a new surface down, the next day the water company rip it up again and lay down crap tarmac, council then come along and relay again.

MADNESS!

It is strongly believed by a cargo pilot ‘in-the-know’ that if EDI got a runway extension all those lovely 747Fs that PIK gets would shoot over to EDI.

Of course they would..EDI is strategically placed on the
Scottish road/rail network..in fact BAA themselves have described EDinburgh’s geographical convenience in glowing
terms…

Did you know that BAA inform airlines that central Edinburgh is only one hours drive from GLA?

Donal Dowds himself described motorway access to GLA as poor…

Who’s kidding who.?

Anyone who can leave Edinburgh’s east end on the hour
and arrive at GLA the following hour has a death wish…

Damn right.

Bring in a rich hot shot who believes in EDI as I and many many more do.
EDI could quickly rival GLA!

Rumours suggest that a group of Glasgow Businessmen might be making a bid for GLA…. disenchanted with the
lack of business flights no doubt?

If successful BAA would have to concentrate their efforts
solely on EDI/ABZ – the latter might be taken over by HIAL.

Which means BAA would be left with an European airport
of their own making…a poison chalice.?

Let’s get something clear here..BAA do not want long-haul
aircraft operating from EDI… their rhetoric alone betrays
their categorisation policy.” Each incoming EDI MD releases
an almost identical introductory speech..”No more big jets
in Edinburgh Skies”..”European” etc..etc..

Of course Edinburgh is the ultimate Tourist and business destination, a new owner would exploit this fully and
provide facities to attract a mix of routes rather than
those allocated presently.

Ask yourself why BAA have discounts available at GLA that are not available at EDI.?

I am not knocking Glasgow here BTW..

I am knocking a monopoly airport owner who has two cities virtually at one anothers throats with the kid glove
treatment at one airport and the boxing glove treatment at the other.. 😡 😡 😡

Here here!

Ah, finaly someone talking sense!

Thank you silver snapper. Thats exactly what I’ve been trying to put across for ages.

As I keep saying; If EDI had the investment, it would have the terminal space and runway lenght required for regular Long Haul travel.
That woould mean some of the flights currently operating out of GLA WOULD shift to EDI as that is the ulitmate destination for many a tourist.

If this were to happen, it would probably work out that GLA and EDI have more or less equal ammounts of direct Long Haul routes.
