New SilverJet tv ad

Have you seen the new tv ad for Silverjet? You might vaguely recognise it.

http://www.flysilverjet.com/silverjet-video.aspx

I get the point, but I’m not sure it works for me. Just in case you don’t recognise it here’s the original.

The thing is that it ddn’t really work for me. The first time it was on, I didn’t pay attention as my Brain just said “Oh, BA have dug out an old ad”. The next time I saw it, I did a doubletake when I saw the name Silverjet but still somehow I thought that it was BA messing about. If I still think “BA” every time I see it then surely BA are getting some free advertising off the back of the upstart ?

Hmmm

Now i’m sure the ad agency that silverjet uses has alot of £500 an hour lawyers to make sure it doesn’t infringe on any copywrite issues

Because that ad, cuts in very close to the original British Airways Advert, and being of the generation that remembers the original adverts like alot of business or retired types with a generous expense accounts or disposable incomes respectivly, then it would probably have the opposite effect of what silver jet is trying to establish!!!!

My thinking is…..A new start up airline with 1 plane or an airline that has a proven business track record and in the worlds top 10 as the most profitable …..hmmmmm only one airline to go with.

Sorry Silverjet….Try something new and more ingenious!!!!!!!!

I know who i’d rather fly out of these two…give me Luton and Newark any day! 😀

But yes, they could have been a bit more original, but it looks like being a stab in the back too :p

It is not so much an imitation – more a very clever pastiche making the point that BA shift the masses, they shift only a select few.

Nicely done, if a little incestuous – I’d guess some of the target audience never saw the original ad – but it still works then as a stand alone.

Yes indeed, it shows that someone has a sense of humour although it might work better if they parodied a current BA advert as I’m sure 90% of the people who view that would not remember that original BA commercial…?

Other than that, I think it comes across as a little ‘elitist’ creating that impression that they only cater for the select few and not that masses. Can you imagine if BA ran a Concorde advert using similar phraseology?

“Rah, rah, rah… we’re going to bash the oiks!”

Now who remembers where that line came from ? 😀

Yes, a very poor imitation, but then how many will remember the original, except us?!

Unbelievable!

It is disappointing that this up and coming airline could not think of something new.
