Today a new Spitfire arrived at Biggin Hill. It’s Spitfire M.IX LZ842. So that’s now three Spitfires undergoing restoration at Biggin and that makes 6 there in total now!

my dream has always been to purchase a Hurricane MK1 and present her to BBMF to ensure she stays here.
I think you would have to tie that up in a contract in blood saying if it was ever intended for it to be sold it would instead be returned to your estate, yourself, or the full proceeds of the sale would be, thus preventing it happening… That way there would be no benefit to them selling it on….. I am sure the likes of Portugal donating the JU52 from Duxford they would never have envisaged it being sold on, but who knows there may have been a clause to allow it..

I did wonder – thanks!

I wouldn’t mind betting that Spitfire XVI offered for sale recently (SL542?) will end up at Biggin, too…!
On a side note, whatever happened to the G2 Collection? :confused:
The founder of G2 trust still involved with spitfires. He has original 2 seater MT818, a couple of MKXIV projects & share of a MKIX !!

Yeah it’s TE 517 (Mk 9) previous owners include Kermit Weeks until 2002 and Robs Lamplough I think.

TE517 (G-CCIX) perhaps??
Cheers
Paul
I’ll go along with that.

Not another one! So it’s not from the Isle of White and it’s not a XIV. I’ll let the guessing begin!
Buy the way it’s Isle of WIGHT !!

Wings used on another CC machine G-CCIXstill flying in this country… never fitted out… never flown since fuselage rebuild many many years ago… starts with a letter between S and U… been in store forever… even in store with CC… ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz:D

In terms of the Hurricane i would love to see one painted in a 32 Squadron aircraft. i love those huge code letters from the Battle of Britain period, yet to my knowledge, no Hurricane that is airworthy has ever wore the GZ codes.
Was that a mistake, with the paint team just following obviously barmy orders? The letters look large enough to be for bombers. I agree though, a great colour scheme.

re;
is it true the airshow got pulled, because it got in the way of bizjets?
By: Mark V - 15th November 2012 at 18:19
I hope they bring back the VERY VERY popular Biggin Hill Airshow in 2013
with no announcement yet I think its sadly unlikely in 2013. It was always one of my favourite airshows and much missed.

re;
yes and how about we line up the biz jets owners and use the A10s on them.?
