New Spits for Australia

Well one is a return airframe anyway..Watts Bridge near Brisbane hosted its yearly Brisbane Valley airshow and the crowd were thrilled to see both Archerfield based Spits in action.
MkVIII MV154 has a most colourful history and is now back flying with one of Wing Commander Clive Caldwells aircrafts schemes.
Second is MkIX SL633 in correct Myanmar Air force colours. Both painted by a very talented Uk Spitfire painter who was flown over to do the job.
Hope this Facebook link works.

Met him briefly when Cameron gave me and my wife a quick tour of his Archerfield operations late last year.MkVIII was just stripped by him ready for paint.A very accomplished painter.

I believe MV154 was painted in Oz by Steve Atkin/ Warbird Colour but SL633 is in the same colours as applied by ARCO at Duxford  and not painted by him (spoke to him today!)

I spent a lot of time with SL633 when it was with its previous owner, painted in (also) correct Czech markings. Ever morning it would greet me at the museum, I’d usually gently rock its wing.

Also, spent some time cleaning it. If you really want to know and appreciate the subtle shape and curves of an aircraft (or automobile) wash or dust it.

Interesting aircraft, you have a host of correct markings to chose from…RAF, Czech, Israeli, Burma.

Is it flying again after its brake issue caused it to go on its nose in July, ’23?

If so, how extensive was the damage?

New or rebuilt engine? Amy damage to the landing gear attachment assemblies?

I heard two conflicting estimates, plus my own observation of the disassembled airframe. So, I’m curious.

As I said, I worked with it nearly everyday for four years, it was said to see it go, especially under such circumstances.
